Primary is barking

I heard that open primary's were noisy. By reading several threads here I think that what I'm now hearing is bad and not good. My scoot has a 3 inch open primary. Under idle I am hearing a loud squeak. It seems to get a little quieter after bike warms up. Under any load the squeak becomes very loud. I thought this was normal because Ive heard that open primary's were noisy. I never hear a wine sound jus a loud squeal. Is this normal noise or is something misaligned. Thanks to all for the help.

Listen to some videos on YouTube and compare them to what you are hearing.

Maybe even record the noise for others to hear.

There should be no "squeak or squeal" with the open primary, there is a distintive "whine" from the belt much like a supercharger on a car. Did this "squeak" just start or new with the install of the open primary?

I bought the bike about 2 months ago and it was already on. It has the letters of bdl on the side. Possibly a baker?? My next step im going to take a 2 ft piece of garden hose and use it to listen to exactly were the noise is coming from. I wouldn't know the first step in downloading a sound file to the forum but il try.

BDL is belt drives limited.

They are at beltdrives.com

You might have belt slap....mine does.

just recorded it and have learned that it isnt a squeak, its more like a loud clicking sound. Sounds so bad. trying to figure out how to load it to this post. emailing it would be easier but ill try to figure it out.

The clutch plates chatter when the clutch is pulled. That is normal.

Very normal. All clutches do it. In a wet clutch the fluid quiets it.

In an open primary / dry clutch it is what it is, the sound of being cool.

They work just like the videos.

Cable actuator works better than hydraulic.

Wet needs less maintenance than dry.
