Why? I mean why silicone at all? there is no need for it. (just my opinion though)

My 07' does not have an o-ring on the back side of the plate, and if you don't use silicone, when the oil starts to seep out you have a tendency to tighten the 4 screws a little more. Can you guess what happens next? you'll be calling Baker or Curtis for a new plate cause you cracked an ear off.
However, if he's looking for a gasket then he prolly don't have an o-ring on the plate.
