Primary fluid

SKOGDOG

One of the old ones.
I’m with John—I think both of us were raised by depression-era parents and tend to be thrifty…
Type F—the only thing you need to do is to lube the primary chain, so ATF type F is a less expensive option.
And I’m sure a very high grade synthetic might contribute to clutch slippage, so lube for the primary chain Is a straightforward issue.

I use Lucas (non synthetic) chain oil. I think you will just have to pick what you think is best for your BigDog. That’s part of the fun of working on them. AB70367C-F368-4CFF-B84C-B481DD475B00.jpeg

I prefer ATF, inexpensive and contains friction modifiers.

As others said, pretty much anything but synthetic. A little to slippery for the over task clutches.

Just want to mention... different bike, but I more mix my oils so I added syn and yes, the clutch slipped. Waited a few hundred miles and no more slip. The point? I'd rather save the hard parts with syn, or have them last longer, sacrifice the plates for a few hun before I get on it for that occasional yee-haa that only happens a few seconds before I run out of road.
