Primary Drain Plug stripped...

Question...

So apparently the previous owner either Hercule'd the allen head to the primary drain and stripped it, or did that and soaked it in red Loctite..

Either way, it aint coming out, even tried tapping a slightly larger allen into the drain plug and it isn't coming...

Options??

I figured I could drill it out, maybe try and easyout? I presume these plugs are pretty standard to replace.. I just would hate to pull the primary cover making a huge mess without being able to drain some of the oil first...

Also.. When I pulled the inspection cover, apparently either the previous owner or mfg black RTV'ed the inspection gasket, is this normal?? Mind doesn't have those orange O-rings like ive seen in some of the pics, mine is a solid paper gasket.. Got a new one, but was slightly shocked to see the whole thing RTV'ed and had to scrape it out with a knife in pieces...

I would try and drill and easy out it.

Drill all the way through it for best results, just don't hit anything on the other side.

Plugs are readily available.

I have never seen a orange o'ring on a DSSC, only the fiber version.

With my boat I use a suction tube feed down the dipstick to remove oil. Needs to be hot to thin oil down some helps to run it first comes out pretty good. My pump is a wolf brand.

My drain plug is a Torque bit, not a allen.

But drill it with a reverese drill bite, and the use a EASE out if the reverese bit does not work..

Again, still learning the lingo.. Obviously the ones I saw then were not the DSSC... Glad to know the plugs are readily avail..

Yes, I use a hand pump, I tried a drill style and just wouldn't pull the oil.. it sucks when your hand pumping 12qts, there just isn't any clearance... Ill check the Wolf ones... Typically run Brad Penn 20w-50 in my boat, sometimes straight 50w...

..
Well... F me... Didn't try that... :bang: headed to the garage... Possible owner fail on this one, didn't look like a torque tip, but garage lighting wasn't the best...

Speaking of boats again... Should be picking mine up from the new re-power.. Old motor was 516ci BBC Blower with 22 hours on a 20k rebuild from top to bottom when leaky headers washed the #7 exhaust and ruined the motor.. Parting it, and went with a Pfaff 568ci Whipple Supercharged EFI. Hoping the new exhaust tails will be back from polisher so I can pick it up Friday...

So with a little finesse, I was able to get the drain plug out, ran up to the local HD store and picked up a new one for $5... Primary oil changes, happy camper... Helps when you use the right tool...

I'm thinking jet boat. What pump and hull ? I use to have a Youngblood Pickelfork with a Burkley pump & Jetovator and a 45* loader plate on bottom. That thing was fast ! Can't imagine running with this motor! What Hp are you spooling up?

the wolf is 12V leads clip on batt. btw SWEETNESS! Mine nothing like that, twin 351 carb. Oil needs to be hot to work properly.

I used to have to suck the oil out of the boat, but my new boat has the oil pan extension hoses on them. so i get them warm and pull hoses out the drain plug, and drain out the bottom.

its Actually a Cat Speedboat DCB Mach26... Theres 2 different mappings, pump super 850HP to the prop shaft, and High Octane 1000HP... :2thumbs:

SO was it Tq bit or Allen?
Torque :bang:

I wish I could, as you can see from the pick, you just cant get in there, the back seat isn't even in it yet, which boxes that motor in even more....

Heres a better pic of the boat for you Liferider...

Glad I could help.

HA! dont talk to me about room in the bildge! the 2 big blocks are CRAMMED in mine with a Genny sitting infront of them, under the rear seat.

Thanks again mittens.. I was following GasMan's How-To and I don't believe he never said or mentioned Torque Tip, otherwise I woulda been a little more in tune with what to use, so just figured it was allen.. After a few more searches did find some other posts with people having similar issues and Torque tip being called out... Live and learn I guess, so thanks for pointing that out...

As far as your bildge.. Holy F... I'd slit my wrists if I had to work on that... there's literally no room in there, but then again, those 496's will run forever, so not much to do other than oil and filters..

I actually have a guy up in Canada who wants my blower setup to put on his 496, now I just gotta find a pallet and get it boxed up and ready to ship...

You cant beat the old school ski boats, they are good family fun. My first boat was a Sea Doo Challenger jet... What a PITA... got a 20.5 Elite Carerra jet, all stock, beautiful Cherry Red gel, and came to a point where it was either sink money into a new motor or buy something bigger, ended up finding what we have now. Ideal boating for the wife would be a wake/ski boat and Go Fast boat... Cant really ski/wake/tube behind our boat, but hey, that's what friends with those kinda boats are for :2thumbs:

Since Im into Drone flying, now Im the guy who sits in the middle of the lake and gets aerial footage of others tubing and wake surfing...

Yea hopefully they will be pretty solid for many years. BUT to get the impellers... i have to remove the rear seat, and still stand on my head.

I have a drone as well, does great at some of the big boating events.
