Primary drain plug stripped (Helpppp)

It has been a hell of a christmas eve!!!!
Clutch has been having problems going into neutral and kind of shifting hard.
About a month ago I changed the fluid in the primary to amsoil 20/50...synthetic... When I pulled the primary cover off today after one month the oil is grey and black. Is this normal?

What can I do about getting the screw out? I have used a small drill to make a hole in the screw. Where can i buy a screw and what is the size?:flag:

Gray looking oil is normal because of clutch disc wear. You might be able to get the plug out with an extraction kit. You'll need to buy a new plug anyways.

Thanks. Is this plug a big dog screw or can it be bought at a hardware store?

The primary oil gets pretty dirty looking fast, due to clutch wear, so the color you descibe does not sound bad. But I am almost certain that you are not suppose to use Synthetic in the primary. You could try a small easy out bit to remove plug.
The plug has an 'o' ring and magnet and is 3/8" dia (I think 24 thread). Try Biker's dream of atlanta or Baker???

synthetic in primary tends to cause more slippage in the clutch pack. and agree on biker's dream/ baker/ stroker's, dallas (another one)

You can get the primary drain plug from Harley, 06 and up primary plug. Not sure if you know this, plug is a torx not an allen. I would suggest when you get the new one, fit the appropriate torx before instilation.

This could be an easy fix with an easy out as previously mentioned. Heck, you already drilled a hole in the center. Good luck and ask Santa to help. Santa can do anything!

all I remember is that its a 3/8ths head

I will take it out in the morning and take it over to the hardware store and see what it really is!!!

Just be careful with the easy out if it snaps then you are in a real pickle. should be good for the primary drain plug pending on how much loctite was used.

oh and before using the easy out drill out as much of the remaining plug as well. be careful of the threads though or you may need or should use a tap to clean up the old threads.

I just looked at my 08 service manual and it said 3/8-24. I don't see an o-ring and can't remember if mine had one. So, use a small amount of thread sealant or blue loctite (they have blue loctite tape which I use on a lot of stuff now). You could put an o-ring in there!

Almost anything you do will ensure no leakage. You just don't want it stuck like you have right now.:bang:

Use a left hand drill bit to remove the plug you have drilled a hole in smaller than the plug. If need be, use a extraction tool to remove the plug if the left handed bit does not spin it out...

Also, use a little heat or lube on the threads before using the easy out. The easy out needs to get a good grip. Once the easy out is in there properly (counterclockwise like Neil says), I might even use a wrench on the easy out while pushing it in to get a good grip.:2thumbs:

3/8ths 24 is what I have I just got it in a chrome bolt
