Primary cover

Whats the secret to getting this primary cover to stop leaking. I've done the bolt pattern and torque specs and still leaks

I had the same problem. I found that my outer cover had a LOT of high spots. Flat filed them down and only leak is a slight one from the drain plug. Dab of silicon stops that tho. Jmo. Good luck.

make sure the rubber band doesn't get twisted while you are installing it. i know it can be a pain in the ass some times, but it can end up cutting the gasket if it gets out of shape. good luck. ps: a very slight bead of silicone in the groove does help hold it in place for installation. ( just a smear)

Get a new gasket from Curtis at Wild Steed. It's sort of square as opposed to round and a tiny bit thicker I think. I've changed both of mine to those (both cover and inspection cover) and haven't had a leak in a few years.

I'm having a bad outer cover leak and have changed out the seal several times, the leak was gotten worse. Was told these covers are known to warp and to check it. If so maybe can get away with a file job to?

Pull the outer cover and take a close look. Use a straightedge to check. I found the high spots to be near the bolt holes.

Update. Replaced outer primary cover with new one and of course new seal. Filled up with 24oz and left it over night. Yep.... damn thing is still leaking and appears to be right along front bottom edge along the outer. Haven't had a chance to look under it with a mirror till off work. Ideas?

If you checked the new cover for high spots an found none, check the inner primary surface.

Check then inner for flatness. May require shimming the trans. Perhaps someone removed and lost them.

also, you sure it’s not the inner leaking? This is typically a solid join.

No and after looking at it again I think it is the inner. Was completely dry between the outer and inner. It's been off before a few years back cause had a seal blow but has been fine up till this season and started with just a lil drip but several miles later including a Sturgis run it was severely leaking

I’ve had the inner covers Allen bolts up front back off before, check the one up closest to the voltage regulator.
I think that happened to ToolhandLuke at Daves last year. Something was coming loose on his primary as I recall.
