Hey guys...Was riding to the watering hole up the road last night and heard something that sounded like running over a beer can. No change in performance though so I thought that is what happened. I left to go home (a few beers later) and hear the sound again, but this time it was a continuing clank, and rattle like something was FUBAR, but again everything was performing ok, so I limped home.

Well took the primary cover off and found a 3 inch piece of metal about as wide as my finger that looks something like a brace with the numbers $ PAPZ 94081? Mg (the ? i couldnt make out what it was).

Problem is...I CANT FIND WHERE THE DAMN THING CAME FROM!!!!!!

Attached is some pics so you guys can see if you see anything. Other than some scars on the casing....I cant tell anything is wrong. Let me know where to go with this! Thanks!

Why you callin me out BB?

After looking at Alhall's primary pics and thru mine.

I'm thinking either a foreign object or something out of the clutch carrier hub. Maybe a piece of the bearing pieces shown in this pic....

Here's a pic of the backside of a stock AIH setup which is made by primo

Further tear down I believe is in order.

Hey Gas look at the photo of Alhall's and look at the Jackshaft...there appears to be another ring there! That has got to be where mine came from!!

Question is now...What Next? Still starts and drives like it always did. I am guessing that would involve replacing the starter or inner primary? Either way....DAMN!

Have you had any service done on your clutch or primary at all. It could of been a brace used to lock the sprockets so you can remove the nuts of the clutch hub or engine sprocket.

No, This is the first time I have had the primary cover off, but I bought it used with 1400 miles on it and I am not sure what may have been done before then. That was 4000 miles ago. It does looks like some type of brace (other than being mangled).

I can find nothing operationally wrong with the starter, tranny or clutch (of course I didnt take them apart to visually see). Rides fine after a test spin last night, but I am a little scared to go too far with it until I figure this out.:bang:

There shouldn't be anything like that in an 04 primary!:)

That would make sense, looks a bit spindly for that though!

its also a bit worrying that a shop would leave it in there! if it is a brace and I agree with the Vet that it looks a bit weak, but that could have caused almighty damage
