PRIMARY CHAIN TENSION SHOE

Wondering if anyone is running an aftermarket tensioner shoe and if so, were their any problems? I have to replace mine after 8K miles and after calling around, it seems the shoe, part # BD123000010-00 is around $40. I purchased the same shoe for $8 in Dec 2010! So I went to the local bike shop and starting looking at Harley shoes. Found one by Drag Specialties, part # 1120-0079 for $8 and wanted to compare with the stock Big Dog shoe. Only difference I saw was color, made in Taiwan, and it looks like Big Dog had to grind the corner of the stock shoe so it wouldn't hit one of the inner primary bolts. Grinded down the corner of the Drag Specialties shoe to match stock and fits great. The only difference is the aftermarket shoe has just a slight more play on the tensioner than stock. The side view looks like they are different but its just the angle of the camera.

I'm still running the one that came on mine and don't know the history of it. But my scoot has a little over 20,000 miles and my chain shoe is grooved worse than yours so it may be the one that came on it.

Thanks for the Drag Specialties part #, now we can all get a cheap one.

Looks like an exact match to me, might possibly be different material so I would check it after a couple thousand miles to see how it is wearing.

There won't be any slack when you get it adjusted, it will be pressed to the chain.

The old one looks like it has at least another 8000 miles in it.

No prob. I had my primary open trying to figure out this howling noise on decel and figured I'd go ahead and replace the shoe. The groove is actually about an 1/8'' deep.

my grooves arent that deep and I've got 18200 on the clock. might have the tension set too tight. should be 5/8ths to 7/8ths. not saying you dont know just putting the info out there

Yes sir! Thought it was adjusted properly but like most things with the Dog, it's a very expensive learning process through trial and error, lol.
