Pricing Questions

Thanks to all who have replied to my "Introduction." Great group of guys (and maybe gals) here. Here are the questions...

1. What is a reasonable asking price for an '04 Chopper?

2. Where do I find that, Ebay, Cycletrader, etc.?

Background...

I am young and married so I need to get down to the $16k or less range so that I can buy the bike this year, that's the goal. I know you get what you pay for but the bikes on Ebay have not been hitting reserve and the ending bid is about $14k. Shopping on Cycletrader seems to automatically add $2-$3k to the bike. I think with stock exhaust this also decreases the value of the bike $700-$1000.
Once again, I am looking at the '04 Chopper, preferably black, no special anything just black and after-market exhaust.

Any pointers?

shop around and be patient man, something will come up

Ebay - if the bike doesn't sell contact the seller and ask him his rock bottom price. If he sells it through ebay he has to pay them a fee where he can save that if he sells it directly to you. Sometimes you get lucky and find a guy in your area, and its just easy for him to say yes to cash in hand.

Craigslist.org - check it daily. There are some great bargains on there.

I got my 03 pitbull with 4000 miles last year for 13,500.00 on craigslist. I bought it the day he posted it up. Just be patient when you are looking. It took around 2 months to find that deal.

Exhaust - don't worry so much if your bike has aftermarket exhausts on it if you are saving some bucks on your bike. I just put on a pair of 700.00 Martin Bros pipes on my bike that I found on ebay brand new for 180.00. With the great info on this site I learned how to rejet a carb and tune it.

Stay paitent, shop around and when you see a good deal....BUY IT or someone else will.

Good Luck

There are deals out there I just sold my 05 Pit for 17,500 Less than what I wanted but was gone in a week.Keep lookin. Dealers do typically want more for their used bikes but if you look up the BD dealers you may see something in their used inventory:D

also with the exhaust I'm sure there are a few spare sets hanging around on here that someone will do you a good deal on - without trying to state the obvious though don't rush into a buy just for the sake of getting one sooner...wait for the right one

These are all great guys, thanks. How difficult do you think it is to learn to ride after the crotch rocket? I think I am an okay rider, never down, no wrecks, tore through lots of pastures at 50-60 on my enduro, in Kansas that is pretty good since there are lots of hidden stumps and limestone rocks to dodge.

I went from a crotch rocket to my 03 pitbull, and didn't really find it to be too difficult. Just take your time and get to know the bike. You'll do fine.:2thumbs: :2thumbs:

I dont think a 04 chopper for 16k will be a problem at all. When I was looking around last Sept you could get a 04 with less than 3k miles for 16k.

The economy is much worse now
