Noticed that as well (?). Weird...

Been going over the procedure(s) in the manual too...
Full disclosure I have not made this adj myself but it seems all you are doing is making sure the pawl is falling equally on each side of the studs sticking out of the shift drum. That will ensure it will have correct throw to get to the next gear. Key here is that the trans is actually fully in 3 gear ( as in not stuck or binding which would change the location of the studs) when you make the adjustment. Turning the tire may help
