Hello.

Not new to bikes, and own 5 Harley's I bought new - ('03 FatBoy, '08 NightTrain, '16 Road Glide Special, '18 Street Glide Special, '21 Low Rider S).

I have always liked the BD Chopper brand, but never pulled the trigger for one. A buddy owned a new one years ago and I always admired it.

I'm looking at purchasing a 1-owner 2006 BD K9 that appears to be a well cared for bike that was ridden. 20k miles, S&S 117, Baker RSD 6-Speed.

Other than the obvious, is there anything else I need to know about these bikes to ask further questions prior to purchase? Are there any known issues of certain mechanical issues I need to be aware of?

Lastly, the bike is pretty damn clean. Whats something like this really worth?

Appreciate the help.....thanks.

Gents,

Thank you for the info! I appreciate it. Asking price is $12k. I'd never pay that price without knowing if those issues have been resolved or not. Maybe its a unicorn, but sounds like those problems are consistent for the masses. Unsure if it has updated electrical system or transmission. I asked 6-7 questions and the owner has yet to respond after 2-days, and it has not sold yet. Probably a good sign for me to move on. I asked those type questions, and others regarding maintenance history/ownership documentation, etc. No response. I think sometimes owners get offended when a buyer is asking important questions. I'm not going to fly across country without knowing answers to my questions or buy sight unseen.

It’s nice but not $12g nice. Maybe $10g….
I can assure you that the transmission problem would be the worst to be confronted with upon taking ownership. Yeah it might be better to search elsewhere. Best of luck!

If your life seems boring, your Harleys get boring because they won't break, you have lots of free time, patience and money, go ahead, buy a Big Dog. They are well built mechanically, look awesome, turn heads, have great engines, good transmissions (I have Jims), you won't want to sell it, but their electrical part is total crap. Carbs are easier to maintain, I guess, VFIs are a double penetration.

You can’t expect someone to bring the bike to you on a chance you might buy it.
You are right about that. I've made a few exceptions on meeting people with stuff I was selling. As far as purchasing the only way I'd ask someone to meet is if I was 100% sure I was buying it. Otherwise, that would never be an option.

I just had my trans rebuilt by baker. They do still have parts, maybe old stock.
Barnes said they are discounting the manufacturing of them very soon if they haven’t already. I’m pretty sure he knows first hand considering they were supplying him exclusively with the upgraded main shafts. Also the internal gears & dogs are to be discontinued as well. I think it’s gonna be a problem for a bunch of owners down the road with that specific Baker RSD 6 speed DSSC transmission. Maybe if you can still get old stock from them it would be good to get some for you to put on the shelf.
