sounds like it could be - I know Jake's bike was creeping with the clutch lever pulled in when his went

SOunds like it could be the clutch basket problem but could also be as simple as a broken clutch cable - worth checking that before pulling the primary.

It should be easy to tell if it's a broken clutch cable by the sudden lack of tension on the clutch lever and no return spring tension pulling it back

Yeah, and when it seems like you've lost the clutch all together but the cable is in tact, you've blown your transmission.

Seriously though, it does sound like a broken clutch hub. There was a problem with them on early production year 2005 bikes. I think the production year starts in july. ( somebody speak up if I'm wrong about the july part )

the clutch cable is fine it works and theres know slack in it,and i can see the adjuster nut on the side of the tranny moving when i pull it in..gotta pull the primary cover off..if its broken will i just need to replace the hub for him,and can i get it thru nelson? does anybody know what it cost? i seen some pics on here where the inside of the primary cover was scraped up,did those guys have to replace the primary also? and does anybody know if i call customer service and tell them would they ship me the parts if i ship them the damaged ones off the bike, prob not right, there gonna want it to go to the dealer being its outa warranty? thanks guys

big dog should supply one for free if that's what it is. Call customer service. It's a known issue.

My brothers 05 did the exact same thing and it was the clutch ass. that was bad. The local dealer replaced it and big dog honored it even know it was out of warranty and he just bought it from a car dealer.

It isn't the clutch hub that broke, but the Clutch carrier plate. They break and do not make any noise at all. My bike would creep and a light in first gear and the night before I tore it down to reassure myself that is what it was, I held the front brake and put power to the cltch and started to disengage the lever as to start to power brake the bike. I didn't allow it to break the tire loose but put as much stress on th clutch as I could without pushing the front tire. When I stopped and pulled the clutch in, I had to hit the stop button real fast bcause the bike wanted to keep moving pretty hard after I pulled the clutch in.

With the broken carrier the clutch pushrod can not disengage the clutch pack because the pressure from the pushrod on the pressure plate just shoves the broken part back and keeps the pack somewhat under a load.

I am pretty sure the broken carrier is your problem.

Mine is tore down as I speek because of aluminum shavings in the primary that I am working on finding the source of.

Wonder how long until BDM does an actual recall on 2005 bikes for this issue.

They will all break sooner or later

Can't handle any warranty work since I'm not a dealer, but will be able to help you get the parts if you decide that you can't get BDM to replace them.

I have an o6 and mine was doing the exact same thing. Was not the clutch basket or carrier. The Clutch was shot. Maybe a rare occurrence with those symptoms, but New clutch and is good as new...

if there here why dont they do some recalls,i mean if you have a bunch of people having leaky starters DO SOMETHING if you have a bunch of peoples clutch baskets breaking DO SOMETHING, these are $30000 bikes DO SOMETHING, know they will wait till someone gets killed, well i tell ya what if i ever decide to buy another bike or if i was in the market to buy a bike and came across this website, well my option would prob not be bigdog after reading about alot of these problems, i could see if they were wear and tear problems but there not, alot of people are having the same things exactly the same things happen to there bikes..wake up bigdog and step up...if you want a better buisness..sorry guys just my opinion..

Well I hope BDM does something soon before I spend $600 for a new clutch .. mine is going ... gray matter in the primary fluid ... I don't trust taking it out of town ... seems like a lot of 05's are having clutch carrier problems ... :loony: :argue:

That's kind of the sad part aint it? Buy a 30k bike and can't trust the dammed thing to go out of town on. I've got a 75 Ford pickup I trust more and I bought it for $1 and a cup of coffee!
