POS side covers!

Well, my right one cracked and scratched a little when it vibrated against the belt guard. This is my second set. What piece of shit design!

Anyway, I took matters into my own hands. I had an old license plate laying around so I took some paper and made a template that would cover the inside of where the bracket ALWAYS breaks. Using that template I cut the license plate, and while I was at it did it for the other side to as it's bound to break.

Once that was done I pop riveted both pieces to the under side of the brackets. Problem fixed permanently.

But wait! The rubber inserts have a metal threaded piece that allows the bolt to hold it in place. When I removed both covers on each side they tore out of the rubber.:bang: And they were barely tight. So I had to super glue those back into place (my all handy JB Weld wasn't anywhere to be found).

I hand tightened the assemblies back into place but it's apparent one of the metal inserts let loose. :loony: I was able to tighten it enough, I believe.

Oh well, I'm lucky as the bike as been rock solid reliable and fast otherwise. And it gave me something to do today.:willy_nilly:

Something I tried on my cracked set while waiting for a replacement set of sidecovers.

Went to Home Depot and purchased a small fiberglass patch kit. It was in the plumbing section and designed to patch fiberglass tubs and showers.

Anyway I put a layer of fiberglass on the back side of the cracked cover at all three stress points and had no more problems. After recieving the new sidecovers I noticed that the new design had basicly done the same thing by doubling the thickness at the stress points plus they improved the mounting system.
