Three times now is the last month after starting the bike in neutral and then when I release the clutch I've had it slip out of 1st gear??? I downshift and it seems OK, never has it done this while normal riding?? This has got me worried since I'm planning on going to Sturgis this July and plan on 4k plus miles?? any suggestions on what happening?

If it is like my HD trans the dogs on the gears are worn.

Mine wore out from partial crash shifting due to a faulty hydraulic clutch actuator. I had to replace the second and third gears ( at separate times).

Might be a good ideal drain the fluid and see what shavings come out.

Ok I put the bike in 3rd gear and disconnected the shift linkage and see the shift lever from the tranny moves about 1/8th inch forward and only about 1/16th aft? think this might be the problem??

Ok, I used a "C" shaped 11/16th wrench to loosen the lock nut and turned the adjustment 1/4" screw 1/8th turn out and now the lever is same movement forward and aft. First check ride was good, guess I will have to ride more to see if it happens again.
