just get the whole high range kit - its not expensive

If you are at a higher elevation than where the bike came from you will be running richer - air is thinner the higher you go

just change the jets one size at a time until you get it right

did you check your flange nuts yet?

:willy_nilly: I decided to just take it in and have it done. I'm a little nerves about leaving it with them because I don’t know if they will take as good of care of it as I would but I don’t want to fuck up my bike by playing with this jetting crap. I want to learn it but I would rather do it on a less expensive bike. I read a little bit on here about the shop and I didn’t find anything good about them but it’s the only shop in town that I can take it to that will work on an s&s motor. rrrrrrrrrr Well I get my bike back tomorrow so I'll let you guys know how it works out. :willy_nilly:

you don't have to touch the motor to rejet a carb

You will find that "most" things are surprisingly easy once you give them a try on your own...

The How-To - BIG DOG Motorcycle Forums section is a fantastic resource with an owners manual.

It is nice to have someone to fall back on if you get into trouble though - even if it only gives you the confidence to get in there and do it...

Even with replacing the exhaust gaskets, swapping baffles ( Standard Troublemaker versus quiet Troublemaker), changing jets, and adjusting the carb, I have not eliminate the popping. I have the popping to what I consider an acceptable level using the standard baffles, a 31 intermediate and a 74 main jet.

So I went down to get my bike from the shop and he said the jetting was fine and that he thinks the carburetor might have a clog in it. He said given the low miles and how old the bike is that gas might has set in it and when bad and then was ran through it. He said he put the jets back to where they were from when I brought it in and that he wouldn’t change me so that was good news. He offered to take the carb apart and clean it when he get time but I think I can do that so I just told them I would take the bike.
So from all of this I decided to take the carb off and fully clean it and tighten my exhaust and as well as my intake to make sure that there isn’t any leaks.
Can you guys think of anything else that I should look over at that time? I know that I should double my nuts to. ha ha

P.S thanks you guys for all of your help.

Also i'm going to do my 2500 mile oil changes at the same time so I looked up what everyone one here is running and it looks like you guys like the Mobil 1 Vtwin 20-50. What are you running in the primary and the trans? Also are these synthics?
Thanks

I have an 04 and it was popping when bought it 3 months ago. It ends up the fuel/air was seated shut. I adjusted this per the instructions provided on the forum and the popping is gone and the dog runs great!!

One thing I would do is pull the tank and clean it out.

I would also put that add on fuel filter that Gasman was talking about the other day.

Yea I already have a fuel filter on it so I dont think its that. It looks pretty clean when I pulled it to. I just did my 2500 mile oil changes about 200 miles ago.

What fuel filter???? Most won't flow properly...

Here's an example of one kind that doesnt flow enough with these bikes.

I thought you found one that worked! I must have got off the thread before you told is it was toast. So we still dont have a good one??

Looks like he's got a filter on it already...I wonder if that might be his problem with the popping.
