Poping on deceleration how much is to much

04 chopper, starts and runs great, idles good as far as i can tell its tunned and running great..i know 4 strokes pop some when decelerating but at what point is it to much poping? Should i be concerened s&s117..what does everyone elses bike do when decelerating?

According to S&S website.....decel pop occurs with a properly tuned carb. You can reduce the pop by running it a bit fatter.....

S&s 117,Vance hinse exhaust, k&n filter..to my knowledge that it.

I thought the 04 models had S&S 107 in them? I have an 04 Pit and mine pops on decel and ive learned to accept it. I have replaced all intake and exhaust gaskets and it still does it. Dont mind it though, it sounds bad ass I think.

My 2004 chopper has a 117..i dont mind the poping just making sure its common with these bikes...my 4 stroke dirtbikes pop on deceleration and its no big deal just much loader on the 117 haha

I agree ....Have had 2 ridgebacks decal popping like crazy so I put new cone shaped exhaust gaskets in and problem solved.

Putting some back pressure into the exhaust will help reduce the popping.

Retorque the exhaust nuts too. Fresh gaskets compress after a few heat cycles and I always go through to tighten it back up.

I wouldnt say the poping is excessive just stands out more than my other bikes, much loader..but my chopper is much louder than my other bikes in all aspects so im just making something out of nothing probably..

Listen to Ker and John, I never believed that jetting could make a difference until mine popped when I removed the baffles, I cut them in half and re-installed them and that reduced the popping, went up on the main jet from a 74 to a 78 and no more popping and runs like a bat outta hell!

Properly tuned (I think) I get light popping/burbling on decel. Before tuning I got flat out backfiring, like gunshots going off. And now I get silence, my bikes been on the lift for 5 months. Time to get back to work!

Okay so, this is my first American bike and I was also concerned about the popping.. the guy I bought it from owned the biggest bike shop here in Houston area and he said that thing runs like a screamin ape and it's normal.. I called S&S and gave em my carb specs and exhaust specs and they said it's normal nothing to worry about.. but I could put baffles in it to reduce it a little.. so with all that being said.. I wouldn't worry at all.. I have Vance pipes and my carb is jetted to specs for pipes and engine according to S&S and my k9 will spank these vrods put there like 5 year Olds on temper tantrums! There's no such thing as too much popping. My stock (looking) exhaust pops more than most, spark plugs looks perfect and it runs perfect.

I'm running a stock motor with V&H 2-1. Setting the idle mixture screw to best idle(1 turn out) it pops on decal. If I richen it 1/8-1/4 out on the idle mixture screw, the popping is almost gone. Plugs look nice. Running 33/78 jets with stock air bleed. I had Mean Mothers on the bike last year and the popping was pretty much the same. Once in a while when I start it HOT, it pops real loud out the exhaust, like a shotgun blast.
