Sorry that was a long time ago, I don't remember any of the details of my setup. You are right, it is a separate cap, and bung. The hole was cut into the tank, and the bung welded in flush as part of the tank. Wish I could have been of more help. Those look like separate cap and bungs? Have links ?
I was looking at the direct fit one piece style. Not sure though.
Looks like that would be a good way to go. My setup would be pretty invasive compared to that one.Any thoughts on something like this.
I would remove the paint saver.
BILLET DUMMY STYLE CHROME POP-UP GAS CAP HARLEY DAVIDSON 1996-12 | eBay
She doesn't fill it completely, but very close. They seal well with no leaks. Just inspect the "o" ring for wear and change out when needed.Ricky's tank is great. If she fills it up completely does it spill out ever?
They came custom like that when she purchased the bike, but I've seen them on other sites. Basically, it's like others have mentioned. The base screws/seats into the original Harley style bung and is secured with either JB Weld or some type of epoxy that is formulated for use with fuel applications. The ones I've seen are stainless but as you can see, can be painted to appear almost unseen. Not sure what you mean about one piece or two. I guess 2. The base that screws/secures into the bung and then the pop up cap that fits the new style cap."Here's a pic of Rocky's duel pop up caps. They seem to do well so far"
Oh I like that. Need more info, who makes them, do they seal well? Are they one piece or two piece?
That looks awesome. :2thumbs:
