Not as long as dentdudes, there has only been about a month where I couldn't ride, he's been since October..Long winter, eh?
I have a small bubble on my fork sliders. Was there when I bought the bike. Bubble chrome after 3k miles is no Bueno. It hasn't gotten any worse however and most people wouldn't noticeMakes ya wonder what cheap ass shop they used for their chrome, I saw yours and its not pretty
I think Big Dog chrome was done very shitty, I know of several that are having problems with their chrome.
But chrome work is definitely a quality thing and good chrome is not cheap. When everyone was sending their shit to Browns plating that was an arm and a leg but that was chrome. Eventually I'll get mine chromed and I'm probably try Atlas In Houston. Rather deal with someone I can drive to if needed. Going to start with the hand controls
Another thing about 20 year old chrome is that is better than you can get these days due to EPA. You can still find stock chrome on 70's Harley's in decent shape.

Yeah, and pitting chrome is pain to fix, meaning expensive. Partly it is salty humidity in Florida? But quality sucks. Hand controls are not exactly cheap to replace... i am seriously thinking of going for Harley controls when They get bit worse. Shit you can almost get the whole used Big Dog cheaper than a few parts! Say get get new chromed foot- and hand controls, struts and you are almost looking -05 Ridgeback price.Makes ya wonder what cheap ass shop they used for their chrome, I saw yours and its not pretty

The salt wreaks havoc on the unpainted metal surfaces, but the Big Dog chrome sucks by comparison with that of Harley. I do not have anywhere near the issues with the chrome on my Heritage (has more than my Dog) than with that on my K9.Yeah, and pitting chrome is pain to fix, meaning expensive. Cleaning and polishing after EACH ride are a MUST with tbe Big Dog, here in Florida.

Well... I have been looking around and around and came across this place as well.. but if I'm not mistaken they don't do rims.. if they do, I'll get a few things done and see how it comes out, both rotors are peeling, the fork bridge and my drag bars are getting that slight rusting thing going on underneath.. I'll try it out for ya being I'm in houston n e ways.. lol
Btw... It is an '01 Heritage with 77,000 miles, my K9 is an '06 with only 6,300 miles.

I buy those chromed fork bridges once in the while and replace them like once a year
they just start pitting no matter how you wax them.

That lousy chrome is actually one reason I forgot my idea of buying myself a new K9 when I turn 60. I figured I would get a brain tumor for looking 35K bike rusting in few years time. The chrome on those can't be any better, they are made from old parts after all.
Then I thought about V8-Chopper, costs about the same... Nah, that would be rather stupid thing to do

See and I spend all these hours polishing billet and it gets shinier and shinier every time.
But then again I only trailer it and my trailer has climate control inside

Well.. looks like I'll be getting it re-chromed then and hope they do a better job..I buy those chromed fork bridges once in the while and replace them like once a year

Relax Andy, loosen up a little ( I have to tell myself that all the time ) on the grips the sweet on your hands is having a chemical imbalance causing the chrome to peel. Don't let that big old Dog intimidate you.

That is exactly what I did! If you only chrome a few pieces at a time it's not too rough on your wallet.

I had to send my rims to California to get chromed bc I couldn't find a shop on the east coast that could chrome a 300. I use a place in Concord, NC for all my other parts and so far after about 40 pieces I have no complaints. He did my forward controls, handle bar controls, points cover, speedo, air cleaner neck, and a bunch of other small pieces.
Hey Vincent... This thread has been "around the Horn and back", so to speak...What's the best way to polish aluminum? And what's the best aluminum polish? And what's the best way to polish the engine with all the fins? Any advice and tip would would be very appreciated!! Thanks Vin cent
