please help....while rolling about 70 going to bike night, the motor just shuts off, the speedo slowely rotated to the right and the needle stayed on the pin 130 or what ever the last number is. I got the side cover off and checked wires found one of the 20 amp fuses coming from the C/B's had blown, another biker stopped to help and went to parts store for a pack of fuses, while he was gone I checked all the wires I could see just found one small black wire had a worn spot. I pushed the circuit breakers in but I cant tell if they are fully in and hitting a spring or popped and wont reset. (wish I knew what a popped one looked like) anyway the guy gets back install the fuse bike fires right up like nothing ever happened it lasted 10 min just enough time to get me to next exit and then left me stranded in the not so good part of town. each time I install a new fuse it blows as soon as I turn the key on. So if any of you know where I should start looking that would be great. I want to do Myrtle Beach on Wed. and I need to find a good hard fix for this... oh yea its a 08 K9 EFi:confused::confused

It's little tough to troubleshoot a blown fuse if you don't tell us what fuse it is...

Dennis

PS Do you have an EHC? WP? PDM? etc.?

If you have any accessories installed, I would start there. There is a ground somewhere and it will take a good troubleshooting plan to eliminate one item at a time. You don't provide enough info for us to help you check the most common issues. Do you have the original EHC?

It might be that worn spot on the black wire that's popping the fuse. cover it up with electrical tape and try it out

In all the stock wiring a black wire is a ground wire so that wouldn't be the cause of a blown fuse.

Disconnect all the wires from the PLUS side of the battery
Connect a DVM to each and measure their resistance to ground.
If on is real low 1ohm or less trace that circuit and see what has shorted out.
Start there.

Hey guys I am sorry for asking for help with no real info to go. but i had just got home with the bike in tow and didnt really have any info. I have a wire plus system installed for two years now, (no issues with that) the two wires that have the 20 amp fuses in them are coming from the WP I think. I guess my first question is how can i tell if the C/B is popped. the two c/b buttions on the bottom? I really am not sure where to start checking voltage. and working 12 hrs a day im just trying to figure out a plan of attack. thanks for your help and I will get everything checked out and give you all the info before asking for help thanks again

X2 Excellent place to start.....and plan to be patient and methodical. The good news is that it doesn't sound like an intermittent problem so it may turn out to be easy to find.

start at the blown fuse, you want to trace that wire and look for somewhere where it is grounded out or have wires that have maybe melted together from bad connection. If you have a bad connection the wires can get hot and melt together. the blown fuse it just like a circuit breaker in your house - if you have a bad connection etc. it will blown to protect the system. If you have or can get a wiring diagram that will help you a lot in tracing the wiring.

ok guys I put new fuse in bike and it blew as soon as I turned the key seitch on, so i took everythig apart and took battery out and started from the blown fuse, put a new fuse in and connected DVM to the neg battery wire and other side of fuse on the bad wire. I have .574 resistance. with key on. nothing with key off. went to other side and disconnected one wire plus connector at a time till I lost the short. it is connector 0013. checked the bike side of the harness, 4 wires no resistance but wires 4 and 5 have small amount and wire 7 has 1.45 but wire 8 has 3.85. any idea where wire 8 goes to. I dont have my wire plus info here today. But just thought I would check the module side of the harness, I thought it should not read anything due to being disconnected from the bike side harness. several of the pins had resistance (may be due to the neg connector) I just dont know with out a diagram. Thanks for the help

Got any pictures of what and where you're checking? No offense intended but I'm having a hard time following you...

LOL Dennis, sometimes i get confused talking to my self too. but when I connect the DVM to the neg cable straight to frame. and the red wire with the 20 amp fuse in it im reading a resistance of .574. then I started un-plugging the connectors and reconnecting them untill I found the one that made the meter go back to OL. it was the Wire Plus 13013 plug. so I checked each pin in that plug and found 4 haad none OL. but pins 4 and 5 had a small amount pin 7 had 1.45 and pin #8 had a resistance of 3.85. I am trying to look at Jakes wire diagram and it looks like pin 8 goes to the speed-o sensor and to the speedo itself. I put he meter back on the red wire with the 20 amp fuse and the reading went back to .574 I unhooked the speed-o sensor from the harness and meter went up to .649 reconnected the sensor and it went back down to .574. so i am thinking that now I have to remove the tank and chast the speed-o wire. PLEASE if im wrong someone step in and let me know..
Thanks MIke

Any IDEAS guys???? The best I can tell now from the instructions Plug 1 position 8 should have a white/black Y wire going to plug 3 position 5. I will check this out when I get home. this might explaine why I have so ohms there.

Could you post (or email) the instructions/wiring diagram you're going by?

The reason I'm having a tough time following your troubleshooting are things such as... I have no idea what the "13013" connector is? Where does it say that? Which connector is it? There's only three and they each have a different number on pins. Easier for my pea brain to wrapped around!

And, in all the diagrams I have. I only see one fuse (for constant power to the EFI) and a 30 circuit breaker for the rest of the bike so I'm lost in the very first post where you mention "found one of the 20 amp fuses coming from the C/B's had blown".:confused::confused:

I'd love to help you but I just can't figure out how your bike is wired up! :bang:

Haw that make the most sense, the bike just shut down while riding at about 70. is there any way you could send me a copy of your WP drawing. mine is unavailable till about 10/15/2013. when my friend gets back. D.. the 13013 is the wire plus number at the plug #1 (8 pin plug). also my WP instructions had me ad 20 amp fuse on the red wire coming out of the wp module going to the battery and the one going to the power side of the key witch. it also tells me to replace the 40 amp breaker with a fuse (didnt do that i still have the 40 amp breaker.)

If the fuse that feeds power to the WP module is blowing out then the cause is either the WP module or whatever that module feeds power to.

Either the module is internally shorted out due to bad WP electronics or a powered output wire of that module is shorted to ground via a scraped wire or a device hooked to that wire is drawing too much current that blows the fuse.

Having a ground wire touching ground will not blow a fuse.

Hey Bro, I just accepted that I had to remove it all, I found out that the wire with the fuse that keeps blowing is the Key switch red wire. not the module red wire. I have it all apart now and checking each wire. Sounds crazy but each of the 3 wires going to the key switch has some resistance when checked to the frame. (dont know if that is normal). I just hope I can put it all back togther, IF I CAN EVER FIND A HARD PROBLEM I have taken a few photos to help.

Is that fused key switch wire a switched power or constant?

You need to eliminate what's causing the fuse to blow by disconnecting loads and branch circuit runs.
