Just read an article on this. Apparently you could get 20 years in jail as a drone is considered a civilian aircraft. The FAA hasn't prosecuted anyone yet but it's possible.a couple months ago that happened, one neighbor was pissing off another neighbor by hoovering over his yard, he shot it down.
The most recent incident was in Kentucky and the judge threw it out saying he had the right to protect his privacy. FAA just won't step in since it was just some civilian cheap drone probably
