Had same issue on my 08 pit, was on a ride and shifter stopped returning to central postion and after awhile made a rubbing sound that resembled grinding of plastic, had to finish the ride shifting and toeing it back to central adjusted the shifter linkage thinking it was in my tranny box but it wasn't, after a quick disconnect and testing the tranny side. Found out that Pits are temperamental, sometimes you have to train and work with them. Just took some time playing with the tension on the linkage side that connects to the forward control and it was back to normal but not stellar. Bro worked for BDM for a few years and said he thought there was a recall that you may want to check into. Get used to taking things a part and putting them back together and some unintended shifting when going over bumps. The joys of riding rigid.
