I and many others have had a float stick at which time your whole tank of gas will run rapidly out your carberator on the ground. If you are lucky it will happen to you somewhere you are alone, not parked outside a bar among many other bikes with drunks smoking. After my first time, I turn it off every time I leave the bike. No down side and it just becomes automatic after you take off a few times and sputter as you fumble to turn it back on.

I have seen riders dump a full tank of gas onto the ground too many times to not turn it off every time I stop.

Yep, I forgot to turn mine off once-in my garage. Went out a few hours later to find several gallons on my garage floor. Bad scene, always turn it off.

When you sit the bike on the side stand, look at a horizontal line, now park the bike. See, that float [was] level. Now it has pressure on it with the gas above.

With the petcock closed, there is no pressure on the float per say. That's the deal. Add angle + gravity pressure = GeaRAGE Floor now has the gas. Show me the kick starter. I chromed your washer/dryer. I wanna take a ride and show the neighbors. How about I start to dry clothes with the vapor... Gas light on the water heater? We might have a tiny window of ratio?

:hi: Bye-Bye! Up goes the house EYE forgot to turn the pet off with the ign. Does that move Make Sense Now?

Sven-I think I kinda follow at least some of what you're saying. I personally know a guy that blew up his house and received bad burns due to a vapors from a fuel leak in his garage being ignited by the pilot light on his water heater. Simply because I forgot to turn my petcock off once, that could have just as easily been ME.
So, yeah, Freewood-turn it off, always.
