Permanent Tank Liner

I have an 03 chopper, anyone out there heard of this problem in the older bikes? Mine runs and acts fine no matter what speed I'm at.

Regarding the permanent liner vs. radiator shop.

The story i got was that the job the radiator shop will do for you will not last also, you could end up with damage to the paint. This is not some bullshit paint job we have on our bikes. What would it cost you to repaint your tank? I saw some of the tanks he had, they were all custom tanks, with custom paint. The shop that does the permanent liner gives you a lifetime warranty. You sell the bike, give the new owner the receipt and he has the warranty. The chemicals he uses for the liner are Rockwell tested for hardness, he achieves a hardness of over 8. They use chemicals to remove your old liner. Nothing touches your paint. You can go with something else if you wish, the choice is yours. I just wanted to let you know about this option.

So how long did this take and what was the cost? I've got a spare tank I might send them and then have painted

The Caswell Motorcycle tank liner that I put in Rocky's '03 mastiff never touched the paint either. It's all in the prep prior to pouring in the liner. It doesn't take a speacialty shop to do this. The Caswell is also rock hard and never had an issue since. Besides cost savings, you don't have to do without your bike for any length of time. This is a one day job from start to finish. Note: I used something similar to chop sticks to plug the holes in the bottom of the tank where the fuel equalizes from one side to the other. Be sure to give the liner a few minutes to begin hardening, then remove the sticks so they don't become permanently sealed in the holes. I also ran a small flexible wire through those same small holes to ensure they would allow the fuel to flow from one side to the other. Take your time with the prep, completely cover your tank with stretchwrap, then with aluminum as per instructions.

I use nuts and acetone to get the old liner out, then POR15. It is a little dicey when you've got paint on the tank, with all that shaking and messing with chemicals. For the extra $200 over the POR15 kit it might be worth it.
