PDM

I need to replace my electronics on my 2006 K9! I would like to hear any feedback from anyone that has used the BDM/PDM! I was considering taking my bike to Namz Cycle as some have suggested to do the total Harley type rewire but even though I think that 1500 is a good price for what they do I'm tight on cash right now and thinking more along the lines of the PDM at 600-700! If anyone here has done that would you please let me know what you think of the upgrade! Has anyone had any problems with the PDM? etc! I'm trying not to spend the 1500 but I would hate to spend the money on the PDM and still have junk and wind up spending that and having to drop the 1500 on top of it! Thanks in advance for any info!!!

WSW is working on a unit that will be plug and play.
We are hoping to have it available within the next 2 - 4 weeks and be in the $400 price range.

Thanks on the info for the WSW but I would still like any info on the PDM if any members that have installed them and what they think! I must be out of the loop cause I don't know who WSW is, could you tell me where to check them out and what else they sell? Thanks!

I do have some experience with the PDM and I'm not impressed.
Big clunky unit. I've seen the HCI on the PDM go bad three different times now.
Not saying it happens to everyone. Only saying that with my EHC experience the nly difference I can see in the EHC and the PDM is that BD removed the micro breakers and put fuses in a fuse box in place of them and took the warranty software garbage out. Otherwise its the same thing.
WSW is Wild Steed Worx

 $1500 doesn't sound good to me but that is just my observation.

BDPP has the PDM for $621.60 at 173-000109-00 | BDM

Wire Plus has WP-374 for $519 at Big Dog EHC Retrofit kit

And Curtis will be offering his option at around $400 at WSW

If it were me, I would go with WSW. You are going to be dealing with an expert on our Big Dogs. I would suggest you always go with one of our vendors first. Also, you should do this yourself or with a friend who can wire it for you.

I don't know how long PDM takes to install but WP will take all day (plan on 10 hours). Good luck and you'll feel better if you do it yourself.

WSW is hoping to have a basic install, with the plug & Play version 04 and newer, to a 1 hour installation with accessories like air ride and wireless ignition key adding maybe 1 more hour to the installation.

I bought one of the early PDM's from Bigdog when they were still in business. Just installed it this spring. Had problems with the ignition module kicking out when you press the start button. Phoned BDM performance products since it is the same people. Told I have a faulty HCI and no warranty. Could send it in and they would check it out. Cost around $300 and not sure if they could fix it. Bought another new harness because they did some upgrades and modifications on it. ($600 with shipping and another $149 for brokerage fees to Canada) Still haven't installed it. Wired in some resistors and an LED bulb to get the old harness working. I've got almost $1500 invested right now. I would definitely go with the complete new rewire instead of the PDM.

If you can wait I'd see what the kit from WSW looks like.

I installed a early version of the PDM and wasn't impressed.

I have had the PDM since mid 2011 on my 05 Mastiff. So far no problems and would say about 12k miles on it (would be more but I am overseas allot).

Have ridden it in rain, cold, hot, and all conditions. For me it was a pretty cool installation with no major hick ups.

Do not know if it will last forever or quit the min I start it up nest time, regardless I am not hesitant about getting on the bike and riding, be it 10 miles or 5k miles.

The safest bet is to go with a standard old school rewire, but that take some changes and a few dollars more. Still that is the most proven and always will be. On the WP many have had good luck with it yet I also see more and more issue coming up, IMHO it is just as risky as the old EHC and possibly the PDM. As far as WSW goes, Curtis has been working on it for awhile and I am sure that it will be a good unit. That said it will be new also and will take some time to prove itself.

IMHO anything other than old school is a carp shoot including PDM. Seems every time a new EHC replacement comes out, for many jump on the wagon and many have issue later on. Time and mileage are the true test and not sure I would jump on something right off the bat until such has had a great deal of time in installation and mileage from real riding with exception of old school re-wire. Some have installed a few other types also, do the research and decide, but be aware it is still always going to be a concern for a few years until all have been proven long term.

Over the last couple of weeks I ordered, received and installed the newest PDM in my 2004 Ridgeback. It went in easy in about 4 hours. All the connectors were installed except the ones that had to go thru the backbone. Those were wrapped with electrical tape for ease of insertion and when I unwrapped it I found them to have the pins already soldered onto them making it easy to insert them into the connectors.
The only bad thing was that they had a wire colored incorrectly but it only took 1 phone call to them to straighten it out. It's only been a week so far but I'm happy with the new PDM.

I've had my PDM for about a year and a half and have put 6000 miles on it with no problems. Rode through rain and 100+ degree temps. The only thing I don't like about it is the HCI part of it. I haven't had any HCI problems but I'm with Curtis on this one. I thought I was getting away from EHC type of system. My EHC was working perfect when I removed it. I thought I was heading off a potential problem. If I was doing it today I would probably try WSW new unit. I know Curtis would stand behind there product and Raywood has the PDM, so they know how they work. But then again if I had $1500.00 I would just rewire the bike and be done with it. I don't have $1500.00 so it would have to be WSW. Hope this helps
