PDM INSTALL

Ordered A PDM a few months ago! Just got around to trying to install it yesterday because I have been sick and recovering from surgery! My 2006 K9 has factory air ride with the compressor mounted at the bottom of the battery box! Exactly were the main brain for the PDM is supposed to mounted! There was no mention of if the bike had air ride or not when I ordered it and it was not asked in the ordering instructions! I guess they never sold any PDM's to people with air ride! NOW I find out today that BDM is out of business! Wonderful !!! Can't get help with mounting and I guess NO WARRANTY!!! So I was wondering if anyone here has installed a pdm on a K9 with air ride and if so what they did to relocate the either the the air ride compressor or the new pdm ech! Thanks in advance for any advise!

K9Kelly,

Glad to hear you are feeling better. From my understanding, the PDM kit offered by BDM was never designed to work with the Big Dog Air ride. Technially speaking, your PDM could work if you isolate the air ride from the rest of the PDM electrical system and use a toggle switch, However, you will still need to find a place to locate the HCI (solid state module) as it was originally designed to fit where your compressor is now located. There might be some room in there somewhere but you will probably have to do some on-vehicle engineering. If you decide not to go that direction, we at KMW can design a system for you too that would be plug-and-play with a toggle switch for your air ride. I'm sure you could find somebody on this forum to buy your current PDM kit so you aren't stuck with two kits. If not, I will help you sell it. Do you live anywhere near Wichita?

Thanks for the well wish's Matt! No I live in Maryland! I'm going back in the hospital on the 29th to have both hips replaced! I was hoping to have the bike done before I went for this next surgery, Might sound crazy but just knowing the bike was done, finished and waiting for me would have been a comfort and something to look forward to after my recovery period! As it stands now with this hiccup I doubt I will get back to it till after I only have 18 days to go! I will give it some thought about which way to go with the bike, sell the kit etc! Thank you for the advice!!!

dont know about the k-9 but on my 05 bulldog with factory air ride my kit didnt have the air system wired in either....i had room to lay my compressor on my trans without it interfearing with anything...i wraped the compressor in some of that perforated rubber mat from sears for their tool box drawers. i layed the compressor on the tranny then wired in a 3 position toggle switch straight to the battery so i could air up or down without turning on key...put the toggle switch in the electrical panel on the left towards the bottom...looks good as i used the black toggle...hopes this helps...billy d.
