Paying Retail for 2010 Wolf

Are the emissions diff or is it just a tariff issue, or is canada just odd? Not sure why the issue with getting a bike bought in the USA is so difficult getting into Canada.

The clutch, can you buy a clutch, have it shipped to one of us and we can ship it to you, would that be hassle free, or is it akin to shipping to the UK?
Knotso: In my province the bike has to meet all the amendments under the highway traffic act. Half the police force don't know their own rules. I get pulled over just about once a week. Twice i got pulled over for a roadside safety inspection. They wanted to write me a ticket from exhaust that doesn't have a muffler style baffle (mean mothers) to too long of a front end, should have a tail light on the back fender, licence plate should be mounted on the rear fender and can't have led lights. When i argued with them that there is nothing like this in the Manitoba Highway traffic act they let me go. My bike went through a government provincial inspection and a safety inspection to get registered. They are just a bunch of dick heads. The safety inspector said they keep pulling me over bacause it isn't very often they see a $100,000 OCC chopper. As far as getting parts, i get my buddy to ship them up to me. Thanks for the offer. This is a great site and would like to thank all the members for accepting me.

I spoke to two dealers. Apparently Big Dog charges dealers $1000 to "Canadianize" the bikes. Includes different brake lights & daytime running lights. I can't believe they would do that. What business sense does that make? Coming to a new market would allow them to build more bikes to lower overall costs.

They do this because Canada makes them do this. The Canadian regulations force Big Dog to change the bikes from the standard way they are produced. So after a bike is built, someone has to go back, take it apart, retro-fit it with "canadian acceptable" parts, so it can be brought into the country. These parts are different from the standard parts...so they don't get a quantity discount on them, hence they cost more. All of this extra labor and special parts drives the price of the bike up...and that has to be covered. As far as what business sense it makes? They dont lose money on the bike, which is pretty smart if you ask me.

The problem is not Big Dog...it is the regulatory authorities in Canada who are restricting imports with these "Special Parts". :hi:

Yes and there are other threads on here from other Canucks that had to meet these requirments. Also pics of the new BDM bikes that meet Canadian approval showing those big tail lights.

But I can't find them right now!!!! :D

And yet we as USA citizens can cross the border and ride with our northern friends with no issues? I would love to ride across Canada someday.:2thumbs:

Getting a Big Dog into Canada will be well worth your time once you get some seat time. Hell Yeah!!

Interesting with the dual signal lights. How about a picture of the rear fender to see how the license plate is mounted.

How YOU doin?
One quick note... a lot of people think that paying cash for something means getting a better deal, and this is true if you're buying from an individual because it usually means that the buyer is serious, more qualified, and ready to purchase. When working with a dealer on the other hand, the exact opposite applies.

You see... dealers make money on financing. So, when you go in and offer cash, they actually make LESS money on the deal than if you were to buy it with financing. I know this because I worked at car dealerships for many years.

I know it sounds great to say "I'm paying cash" but to those in the business, they're thinking, "Great... here comes another one that thinks he can get this thing for WAY cheaper because he's got cash... Little does he know that I'm making less now."

Looks like they got around that requirement having it mounted on the fender. If you look at the K-9 it's still in it's stock location. I actually like the dual tail lights. Wonder if they operated independent of each other meaning one set are turn signals and the other brakes?

Those prices are a bit high especially when the curriencies are as close as they are. What percentage is the GST?

I bought an 09 Mastiff in 09 and ordered exactly what I wanted. I could of saved about 2K if I had bought a bike which was on the show room floor, but for 30K I couldn't compromise. If you have the cash to buy it then order what you want and be done with it. You will have to wait about a month for them to build it for you but I don't think that would be a big issue for you in Canada.

Good luck!

Thanks V. Unfortunately I am located in Canada and there are only 2 dealers. They are ordering it for me with my specs. He has 3 2009 Wolfs with not with color I want. He has gotten burned on the currency with those ones and therefore not worth what he paid for them unfortunately.

I hate the fact that there is no competition.

Have you looked on Ebay??? You can save thousands on a new/used Scooter....and keep some of that CASH in the bank.!!!

Actually, there is a chance that financing a "bike" would cost a dealer money.

I have never worked for a motorcycle dealership but I have worked for several car dealers.

You are currect that "car dealers" get a couple of points kicked back to them from banks if they use them to finance the car.

But, with that said, I suspect that in the "powersports" business, if thats how it is referred to, just as in the "power equipment" business that I am currently in, that GE Money is used as a source for financing and GE typically charge "fees" from 2% - 5.5% of a deal depending on the program that is signed up for.

Long story short, if I sell an Exmark Lazer Z Zero Turn and offer a customer 36 months 0% interest, and I sell it for $500 over cost, I just worked for free.

I have a feeling that may be how the "Motorcycle Industry" is set up as well, but I do not know for sure.

Just my 2-cents.

Ah just order what you want and pay for it; you're supporting BDM and your local dealer. It's just money, you'll make more....:D
Else, you could just keep stewing over a few bucks and not have what you want....:loony:

I believe it means Goods and Services tax. Then there is the Provincial Sales Tax (PST). And some provinces charge taxes on taxes, so the the total tax bill can end up being up to 20% of the original price
Ohhhh, must be the influence to our upcoming VAT :bang::rant:
