I am looking a 2010 Wolf and the dealer wants retail for the bike he is going to order in. Should I get a discount? I thought I would since I am a cash buyer. I would appreciate your thoughts.

Well seems like to me you should be getting something better but is he ordering the bike for you to your specs? If so have you priced it out to other dealers ?

Also have you looked to see if any other dealers have what you would want ?

It is a 010 and seems like there will be 09's available,
We are going into fall/winter and maybe BD will offer up some rebates or something.

If they bring it in and it sits they may do something for ya to move it or if somebody else buys it you can still order another

So all that said, I don't no:hi:

Thanks V. Unfortunately I am located in Canada and there are only 2 dealers. They are ordering it for me with my specs. He has 3 2009 Wolfs with not with color I want. He has gotten burned on the currency with those ones and therefore not worth what he paid for them unfortunately.

I hate the fact that there is no competition.

paying cash i think he should be will to work if you possibly sign an agreement before hand or something. Cash always worked better in a low price for me on things I have purchased!

You have 2 things working against you...1) your in Canada, and 2) your not purchasing from the show room floor. All said in done, I'm willing to bet if you wait until Jan or Feb you should see much steeper discounts. Good luck with the purchase.

Bluff him and make an offer. Just say "I'll do it today if you take $____ for it". All he can do is say No. If he says No, walk away. He'll stop you from walking if he wants to do it. You can always go back later and pay MSRP. Just my 2 cents....

I'm from Canada as well, don't forget If your Calgary Guy or PQ Guy won't deal with you, wait till spring and go across the border to the US and buy. Our dollar is almost on par now with the US currency, within a three to four months we will be on par.

I remeber a time not to long ago HD dealers were selling for over MSRP and people still bought.

If that dealer has 2-3 09's he is or soon will be paying terms on and he is willing to bring one in for you for list, I don't think that is to bad of a deal in my opinion.

Seriously, since you are paying cash for a $30k plus bike, what's a little more cheese to get exactly what you want?

To the rest of us current owners, it is hard to bitch about the market value of our bikes when in reality, we are the ones guilty of driving them down when we beat the dealers up on NEW pricing.

Let's stick with getting the great deals from the guy who bought one when maybe he shouldn't have. They are going to get rid of it anyways, might as well get the bargin from them.

My 2 cents.

As a fellow Canadian, I have a couple of comments. Having just put away my dog for the winter, I wonder why you would be buying now unless you are getting a deal? Secondly, my 04 Chopper was bought in Arizona, taken apart, & brought in & registered as a u-built. Easy way to get around the Transport Canada thing. Basically just took off the wheels & the front end. Just my 2 cents, good luck.

Hi Can-Dog 1. Apparently we can't import one. Its not on the Transport Canada list.
I also brought in a 07 K9 to Canada 2 years ago. Had it shipped in pieces and assembled over the winter. It is registered as a Homemade replica kit. The money was at par then. I don't know when the Bigdog's are going to get on Canada's admissible import list. I tried to buy a soft pull clutch kit from the dealer in Calgary. They sell for $219 US. The dollar is almost at par. The dealer said he could probably give it to me for $500 and the shipping cost by Greyhound. What a total rip off. I wouldn't trust that guy at all. They are not out to give deals or treat a customer satisfactory. I have a buddy in New York who lives 5 miles from a Bigdog dealer and i get all my parts from them for 10% off and my buddy ships them to me. Good luck with your new purchase.

07bigdog thats why I posted the question. I spoke to both dealers and you would hardly know that there was a recession going on and that HD just shut down Buell. These are not good times but they are doing little to get me to buy.

BTW great looking bike. Thanks

Are the emissions diff or is it just a tariff issue, or is canada just odd? Not sure why the issue with getting a bike bought in the USA is so difficult getting into Canada.

The clutch, can you buy a clutch, have it shipped to one of us and we can ship it to you, would that be hassle free, or is it akin to shipping to the UK?

barhopper

Another round please
Do any lights like turn signals, brake lights ect have to be in a different spot on these bikes? I remember watching something on TV that different countries have different rules on alot of things pertaining to lights ect.

We had a guy purchase one from us 2 years ago. He somehow took it to Canada Way the Hell up like 1300 miles from us. Not sure how he did it but he I think had it registered in Florida and then took it up there. Wish I knew more about it. Kind of like how I would like to have an MT-01 here in the US but it is only sold in Canada and Europe.

I spoke to two dealers. Apparently Big Dog charges dealers $1000 to "Canadianize" the bikes. Includes different brake lights & daytime running lights. I can't believe they would do that. What business sense does that make? Coming to a new market would allow them to build more bikes to lower overall costs.

Then HQ writes a letter stating that the bikes meet Canadian standards and viola the bikes are in. US models apparently can't be modified. I was able to get info from Transport Canada.

In any case more competition is coming. Indian is arriving here as well. If BDM plans on expanding in Canada and Europe they should be prepared to be competitive and have programs to help dealers deal with inventory and currency moves.
