Parking

Help me understand this. I have been noticeing the direction people turn the handlebars when they park their bikes. I have always been told and tought that you turn the bars to the direction the bike leans when on the kickstand. At the BigDog dealership, their bikes are just the opposit. They turn the wheel to the right, while the bike leans to the left. Is there a reason for this?

They turn them that way for looks.

As long as you're not on uneven ground, it's not going anywhere.

Still, I've never parked that way except to wash.

also, remember it is much safer to back into a parking space if at all possible.
if somebody whips into your parking space and you are pulled in, if they hit the back tire, the kick stand goes up and the bike will probably go down. they drive off and you are stuck with the damage.
if you are backed in, they hit the front tire and bump the bike backwards but the kickstand stays down and the bike probably stays up. they drive off but you, more than likely, don't have any damage. plus the front of the front fender, on our dogs at least, is not in a position to be hit by a cager, they'll just hit the tire.

Good one on backing in woodbutcher.I never thought of that, just did it on ease of pulling out and a better view of oncoming traffic... :2thumbs:

Yep, it's a looks thing. You'll notice a lot of magazine pics and stuff are taken that way also. I guess just because when you're taking a pic from the right side (the sexy side) you still get to see the front wheel? I don't know but yeah, it's not normal to park that way other then on a showroom or photo shoot.

I park mine like the dealership does just because the other way the clutch cable will touch on the gas tank.
