Does anyone know the warranty on the paint. Had it since april and the paint is peeling away from the fender right next to the strut.

The paint warrenty is 6 months just like the chrome. I suggest you call bdm directly and advise them.

The salesman told me 6 months, the guy in service told me a year. That's why i'm asking. I'll call Big Dog. Thanks Gas!!

I just went to the manager and he is going to hook me up. He took pics to submit to BD and then fix it after the lonestar rally. Hes awesome!! By the way its 6 months. You were right Gas Man.

6 months is a freaking joke, you pay upwards of $5,000 for them to paint your bike and all they can do is stand behind it for 6 months. Good of them to repair your bike but they need to seriously look at their chrome and paint warranty. They obviously have no confidence in their craftsmanship or ability's in this department. This is one area that should be easy to quality control.

I agree with you on that one. I have a paint chip on my front fender and checked with the local auto body paint shops and I have been told by all that there was a bubble in the paint from the manufacture, and that this is was not from a rock. When I called Big Dog and spoke with the paint expert, he wanted to see the what I was talking about. I e-mailed him a picture of the chip and he replied that since I have an 06' K-9 and the warranty is only for 6 months, I am out of luck and have to pay in the area of $350 for a chip that is smaller than a dime. I think that when they offer a 2 year warranty, it should cover the paint as well. I will e-mail you pictures of the chip.

I would have them re-paint the whole fender to be on the safe side. That's too much money for a paint job that wasn't properly done. Better having BD do it than having some other idiot screw it up.

Best way to do it is to buy the bike solid color and have someone local do it, that way you have someone to talk to first hand and actually get a warranty.

Thought I'd piggy-back onto this thread....
Just took the gas tank to my nearest Big Dog service shop, to get sent to the factory. The area around the cap will need to be repainted. I now know not to fill the gas tank too full if you will have it sitting in the sun. It may have forced a bit of gas under the tank-saver and lifted some of the paint.
BTW, Talked to the guys with the Big Dog truck, at Street Vibes, and they were real helpful.

I have painted things professionally for close to 30 years and have my own buisness in baltimore maryland,we use PPG brand paints and the company gives 5 year warranty on all paint, and we in return offer this same guarantee to our customers cause PPG will back it up.i have NEVER had to honor this warranty....
Now on the other side is the person that pulls up on a curb and the paint cracks on a bumper and they cant understand why it isnt covered, the guy that gets chips in his hood and wants me to cover the warranty these are failures do to the customers driving routines or just natural daily driving not caused by the negligence of the manufacturer or applier (ME) of the paint....
My opinion on the warranty of bigdogs paint department is as follows very few custom painters are painters first and artists second they can do all the artwork and all but the procedures and know how to do refinish work is not there ,therefore you will have a breakdown in the application of materials subjecting it to having a higher failure rate.......
and the second reason is the majority of guys that buy these machines are so freakin anal, their egos are so large, and they are not open to the fact that someone else might know a thing or two more than they do,not to mention they think bigdog should helicopter in when the slightest things go wrong with their bikes even know its an easy fix on their part yet would require some type of sacrifice on their part that they think the $30,000 bought an excuse not to do..wow did i go there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so to sum this all up if a maufacturer of paints gives a warranty aint it strange that the builder dont follow unless they know the failure will be do to that companies neglegence, and second our bikes are gonna get scratched ,dinged, dented and chipped ...well thats if you ride it..........and we cant expect bigdog to fix everything for us....

I have to agree to a large extent. Our bike has 3783 miles in the 1st 3 months, and will never look new again. That's just the way it is if you're riding!
I'm very happy that they are gonna cover me for the paint peel around the filler. For my part, I will be more careful about refueling. Part of being a responsible owner?
And what the hell are you guys doing up at this hour?!!

I also learned how topping off will allow gas to dribble out under the paintsaver and wreak havoc.......

Big dog puts out a quality paint job in my mind. I have always been impressed in that department. Paint on a bike is going to take more abuse do to vibration.

JIMBO, just thought I'd ask, if BDM rejects the claim on my tank's paint bubbeling and peeling around the filler neck would you be willing to work with me on fixing this issue?
Can you maybe come close to matching the mono blue color I have now? I'm thinking you can, especially since I've seen your skill and craftsmanship first hand. :2thumbs: (your own bike for example). Let me know when you and if you can, ok?
Thanks, Big Blue
