Hey yall is this a bad jack shaft?

I have a 2007K9 that when I press the starter button I just get a fast hammering sound. Nothing intense to turn over the starter is definitely engaging but it just sounds like a woodpecker pecking on wood lol opinions would be helpful. Thanks so much.

Hola,
I have broke 2 starter shafts since bike new. (08’). I replaced the whole starter both times. Mine sounded similar to what you are describing.

I used to take my starters to a local car alternator shop to r&r the jackshaft. They used a new jackshaft, same model numbers. It wasn't expensive at all.

Mine does that when the battery is run down.

That would be worth rulling out first.

Remove the primary first, check if your starter is properly engaging and spinning. Then remove the starter.
