This could probally be a repeat thread but if so sorry I couldn't find the other one. So, I have heard BigDog came out with a open primary for the bikes, if this is correct, has anyone purchased one of these and if so, pics please and what do you think of it.

Not Big Dog, but a Baker belt drive for later dogs...

Got a Karata myself :2thumbs: each brand has it's pros and cons, just gotta research and go with what you feel is best, everyone's got their opinions on each :2thumbs:

some like looks, some like the materials, some cost...etc

Good luck:up: post up with picture when you install..

I have one, I took off my bike when I bought it. I dont know the brand name, but I have all the parts. I upgraded to a Primo, open belt drive. Looking to sell cheap. PM me and we will talk about it if you are intrested.

Onaprwl, I don’t believe that Big Dog Motorcycles has come out with their own open primary belt drive system yet. If they did I can’t find it listed as an option or an accessory yet.

As Bulldog said, it is not put out by Big Dog but rather by Baker. The complete setup is about $3K from what the dealer told me (not insatlled).

I'm not Bruce, but I installed mine myself. I t took about an hour and a half to get the closed primary off, and about two hours to install the open Karata, if you have the right size sockets and allen wrench sets. Mine was straightforward, I had a couple of questions about the stock rubber o-rings, and a call to Jim got me fixed right up. He will answer any questions you have, a phone call is all it takes. I have been running mine for several months with no issues. BTW, make sure you re-adjust your clutch pushrod after installation, it's not optional even if you have just adjusted it prior to installation. It WILL require it.

took about 3 hours and was not bad to do. If you have any question you can call karata and he will help.

That is interesting. I haven't drug the clutch basket yet. I drag pipes all the time on the right. I don't have any chicken strips left on the rear tire either. I am running a karata 4", and I love it.

I am a BIG fan of the Karata Open Primary - here's a previous post that might give you some insight as to why....

I have TWO of them 4" - one on my K9 and the other on my Mastiff - all I can say is you won't go wrong with a Karata.
JIM (Mr. Karata) is a pleasure to deal with and has a WEALTH of knowledge (I have spent a ton of time with him and I tell you he KNOWS HIS STUFF COLD)

Regarding the OBS - do visit his web site, you have quite a few choices when it comes to the OBS design.

Good luck and go get one for yourself - its fathers day soon -
