Who has one? What one do you have? Pro's Con's?

With so many out there, getting the most preliminary information would be useful.

go to search on the tool bar and type in "open primary" and you will find (5) pages worth of information on the subject from karata to ultima and everything in between.

The RMD Gear Drive open primary is indeed very cool looking, but without knowing all the details, I would think totally unpracticle. Would seem with out some means of lubrication between the gear teeth during the meshing and unmeshing, those gears are not going to be around for too damn long. Also with such a solid connection with no compensator or ablity for a belt to take some flew, could see some issues also.

Let alone to being very much unsafe, it is one thing to get a leg caught in a belt burn or wipe, sticking a foot or hand down accently into those gears would pretty much insure that your guitar playing will be effected for life.

I'm going with the RMD this fall on the Chopper ( probably has something to do with my being a dealer for them as well ... hehehe :D ). Haven't heard anything negative about them or Karata as choices for the Dogs go.

Fibersnake .... was thinking the same thing myself for a couple of years, then realized that I never heard of anyone actually getting hurt on one of the belts. Torn jeans .. yeah. Not to say it hasn't happened, but I don't know of any.

I can give you a list of the injuries that I have taken over the years from all kinds of shit though from tools to custom spikes on the bikes.

:hi: for you nelson, since you are a dealer, you could list it as advertising your business and the parts you sell, and take it as a full deduction off of your taxes. life is good!!!:2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

I'm also an 18 year Scuba Diver and have my scuba apparel lines for sale over in Maui. That works as well. :whoop:

Nelson,

Not sure if anyone has gotten hurt bad with a belt drive. Can tell you from experience though, that I have had a pant leg get caught and spun around in one and the back of the ankle calf took a good welt. Hurt like hell and scared the shit out me, that was years ago and if I evey put another one on, it would have at least some type of basic guard.

Now that damn gear drive set up they had for the RMD site, getting something caught in those gears would be a whole nother matter. The total gear drive is cool but not practical for anything more than winning some nice trphoies at the local bike show.

Do like the RMD open belt though.

I'm happy with mine from Southern Motorcycle Works. Got about 1,000 miles on it now and it's been great. I haven't caught my pants in the belt, but I have caught my pant leg on the cover a few times pulling up to stop lights. I bought stirrups for my jeans, and recently attached clips to my boots to keep my jeans from blowing up while I'm riding and this solved the problem. Also my forward controls are extended so my pant legs aren't very close to the belt.

On the forward controls not sure of the brand, I got them off Ebay, they look like an accutronix knockoff. $360.00.
