Ok I have a friend that has a 99 Dog. He has been having problems with an electrical issue. Bike runs fine and nothing looks like its bad (no bad wires) but its been just up and dieing out on him from time to time. Its starts to break up and then just ups and stops. Does not matter if he is at a idol or running on the road. We have checked the coil and it tested ok and all the proper lights on the ignition and ehc are all correct. Also looked into the boards on the hand controls and those are ok as well.. I was wondering if it could be the Ignition Cam Sensor. Maybe its having issues and not always working. Has anyone came across this problem before. I would think its a sensor and either it works or it doesn't . BTW yes it has good gas ! lol

Does the 99 model have an EHC?

If so, throw that son-of-a-bitch away and get the Wire Plus module...

HAHA thats what I said...but yes it does but it looks alot better than the one I have. Its a ThunderHeart ech. and it only controls the hand buttons, lights, and speedo. Has nothing to do with the ignition. well at least thats what all the LED's read.

JoshT, my guess would be the ignition sensor in the nose cone. I've had to replace mine like 2-3 times in the past 4 years. just a quick guess thou. You can pick them up from J&P (for instance) for about 55 bucks.

Are you sure it's an electrical issue and not a carburetor issue? Or a fuel cap vent problem?

Another thought...

When his Dog starts to die switch the gas to reserve. May help to rule out a clogged filter on the petcock.

It is an old Dog and we have a tendency for our "lines" to get clogged up! :(
