Hello everyone,
This is my second post. I introduced myself to everyone last week, thank you for the welcome.
I have a 2005 Mastiff, I just bought about a week ago.
The very nice old country boy I bought it from still has a year of extended warrenty, (transferable) but since he has a good relationship w the dealer
(Winchester Va.) he put it in the shop to get everything looked over before I took her home. It turns out she had a cracked clutch plate.
After about a week a nd a half of trying to find a new clutch plate they finally recieved a whole clutch assembly costing the guy i bought bike from $450.00
I meet the seller at the dealer right after the clutch assembly was installed.
On the way home ofcourse I rode kinda hard to feel things out, and the clutch cable slips, leaving me with only about 50% clutch when I squeezed the clutch fully and put it in gear she was pulling a little bit, but I could get her home.
I called the dealler they gave me instructions on how to adjust the clutch cable (under that rubber boot where the clutch cable goes down the frame.)
I adjusted it, and everything was fine for about a week.
Tonight I went out for a ride and got into it pretty hard not nearly 100% or anything but pretty hard.
The freakin clutch cable sliped again and this time it went all the way out, NO CLUTCH AT ALL. So now I’m thinking I don’t have a tool kit yet (that’s another post) So I try to make it home about 10 Miles with no clutch. It would have been fine but I had to go through town where there are a lot of trafic lights.
I got stuck at a light and she stalled then I got it in neutral and I thought ok just kick it in gear and get home.
Well that didn’t work. I had to call my 70 year old nieghbor at 9:30 PM.
So he brings some tools and I get the clutch cable adjusted only now the damn thing wont get in gear. I guess I screwed something up trying to jam it in gear from dead stop w no clutch.
So here is the delema. I think the mechanic who installed the clutch didn’t tighten the cable at the clutch side of the cable, and that’s why I had to keep adjusting the clutch.
Well now things are really screwed up and it wont go in gear I probably did someseriouse damage to the tranny or something all becouse the mechanic didn’t tighten his end of the clutch cable.
What do you think I should do?

How far are you from the dealer that worked on it. I would take it back and demand that they get it right. You have had the Bike for less than 30 days. That dealer ship should at least warrant their work for 90 days. Good Luck

Yes, you shouldn't have to adjust the cable as often as you mentioned. I agree with Eric, sounds like your clutch nut is backing off. Make sure you lock-tite it...:2thumbs:

are you guys talking about the clutch nut under the rubber boot in the clutch cable? if so that is very tight.
I just went out and got the bike from the side of the road i couldnt get it in
1st or 2nd gear I started ,and road home in 3rd gear.
I think when I tried to get started with no clutch (before I adjusted the clutch cable) I fucked something up.
now that I adjusted the clutch again, the clutch works fine. but becouse I tried to get started eirlier with no clutch I think I screwed up something with 1st and second gear.

You don't adjust the clutch with the cable! Did you pull the clutch rod adjustment cover and adjust the clutch itself. The cable adjustment is only for the hand lever.

Welcome to the site

OK your right
I was only adjusting the cable for the hand lever
and I agree that I probably do need to adjust clutch nut.
But my concern now is, I WAS able to start in 3rd gear slipping the hell out of the clutch just to get her home,
So the clutch is temporarily working, why couldn’t I get it in first or second gear?
Do you think I fucked something up in 1st and second gear? When I tried to start w no clutch?

We don't know. Is the shift linkage binding up? Check to see if the transmission lever at the rear of your shift linkage is loose on it's spline and rubbing against the inner primary.

When you tried to shift it without the clutch working were you jamming it into gear? Maybe you did fuck it up but those tranny's are pretty tough.

Adjust your clutch first and let us know what you find. Then if that doesn't work then you should pull your primary cover and see if the clutch "Hub" nut came loose.

and if you are not sure what you are doing take it back to the dealer that did the clutch as it is his problem to fix

Given the problems you're having, you're probably better off having Scott's folks at Full House take a look at it again...
