Big Dog recommends dinosaur...

S&S now recommends Mobil 1, but I was thinking 3,000 miles? after the full breakin...

I suggest not every using Royal Purple......
I started with Amsoil at 5000 miles and stayed with Amsoil util 12000 miles.
I put Royal in at 12000 and the motor ran hotter and made bad ticking noises.
I yanked that shit and put Amsoil back in and problem solved. Weird

Anytime after break-in should be good, Break in is 3000 miles so second oil change (500 first next 2500 miles). The more miles you have on it after break in, the more chance of leakage occuring with synth. Should not be a problem for the first few thousands, but if you got many miles on it and switch over, do not be surprised if it starts getting leaks as the synth flushes the dirt and parfin build up in the micro holes and gaps that develop over time on the sealing surfaces that are being plugged by the parafin and dirt.

Synth will have higher detergent values, more consistent molecular structure and all these will find any in-perfect seals by cleaning out the crap and parafins.

Personal recommendation is Mobil 1 20W-50 V-Twin oil, however there are many others out there that are good also. Mobile 1 for me is excellent, recommended by S & S and easiest to get ranging from AutoZone, Advance to sometimes Wal-Mart as well as being only about $8.00 per quart.

Damn Dave, what are you stock piling the oil because of the prices lately. You sure you have enough?

I bought my bike with 2,300 miles on it and I put synthetic in it straight away - I know Big Dog say running in mileage is 3,000 but I have a hard time with that - especially when S&S say 1,000 miles.

I switched on my last change form Amsoil to Mobil 1, but for some reason, which I can't really explain, I think I prefer the Amsoil. I also think I'm going to try the Amsoil extreme gear oil in my trans and see how that compares with the redline heavy. I think amsoil is hard to beat.

Rain.....the Mobil 1 is still $8.99 a quart at Murray's Auto Discount...:whoop: so I picked up enough for a few oil changes:whoop: don't know how long that price will be...being that all the shit is going up!

The Redline was $9.75 a quart from Summit Racing
and the RevTech was $4.99 a quart from Dennis Kirk
