oil question

Just bought a 2003 Mastiiff with 2k miles.

When the bike runs for a bit and gets good and hot, the oil starts seeping back out of the filler where the cap is on it. Does the bike have too much oil in it? There is no dip stick. just a cap that pushes down in there. i havent seen any way to check the oil level. Shouyld there be an eye glass or something?

My first bike so forgive me if this sounds stupid, and thanks for the help.

I'm a new BD owner but I've been riding for years.

My Ridgeback doesn't sport a dipstick either so the oil is checked via looking down the filler hole. You should be able to see the oil level near the low neck of the filler hole. It sounds like you may have overfilled it. Check you manual for the correct amount of oil. Mine holds 3 qts.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, I just bought this bike and don't have a manual yet, just ordered one from big dog. The oil level was really high looking into it. I took about a pint out with a turkley baster and that seemed to fix it, but im not sure how much oil is in it now. I am waiting on the preson to call me bak that i bought it from to tell me if they changed the oil in it or added oil before i picked it up.

Thanks for the response though.

I believe there is a check valve that keeps oil from draining down into the engine that may be stuck and forcing oil back into the tank. Check oil level.....doesn't require a dip stick.....visually about an inch below the opening.....however.....more knowledgeable folks than I will chime in soon.

please do an intro

I use my index finger SECOND BEND. Some guys have made their own dipsticks and some added temp gauges. on an 03 you can pick it up at any HD Dealer

DONT OVERFILL

I use a chop stick with a mark on it .... I have an oil gauge too but I seem to be looking at it too much when I'm riding... lol ... Change the oil then there's no doubt ... Ride Safe ... :D :flag:

Thanks everyone, I jsut spoke with the dealer purchased from and he said noby knew if they changed it or not. I'm gonna get it changed and go from there so I know for sure how much is in it. Thanks again. Looking forward to being on this forum.

Thats a smart move anyways to change all your fluids. Some poeple will tell ya about anything but the only way you are sure its done and done right is do it yourself.

Go to the How To and service your own and if you have a question hit this place up after you do a search but I know how hard it is to search when you want a quick answer
