Oil pump?

Hey guys; need some insight and advice before I dump any more money into my '03 Chopper...

Bike has 6750 miles, I recently had the clutch plates replaced, ECM went bad and replaced with a newer unit (luckily, the HD dealer had one in stock, $299.00 retail, installed). Which leads me to my current issue:

I'm the 3rd owner of this awesome beast, previous owners were military and I'm guessing by the low mileage, the bike probably sat for an extended period at one time or another. That being said, yesterday oil started spewing out of the breather through the aircleaner. Made it home (about 1 mile), topped her off, and removed the aircleaner cover. Started her up and oil literally spewed from the breather tube. No noise from the rocker boxes, but all the oil from the oil tank is gone. Tappet screen clear, no dummy light, but still puking oil from the breather tube.

What is the consensus? Time to rebuild the oil pump? If so, upgrade to the high flow rebuild kit? I don't really want (or need) to run a cooler, although it would help.

Thanks fellas!

if its been standing for a while it could have just wet sumped (oil drained into the cases). Put some more oil in and run it again and see if it stops. You say all the oil from the tank is gone though? Whatever you do don't run the engine with no oil in there

Thanks lee. Just drained the crankcase, looks like everything drained into it. It wasn't that "full" when I changed the fluids initially. Gonna see if it releases the crankcase pressure, oil her up, and see if that fixes the issue before I move forward.

I appreciate the input! Thanks again!

you need to reseat the check ball under the tappet screen

need to buy 2 new checkballs

use one to make a new 'seat'

install the 2cd one

Thanks Marv, how would I do that? Is there a post with instructions? I have limited knowledge of the EVO V-Twin, but not afraid to get my hands dirty. Thanks again for the input!

just do a google search for 'reseat check ball V twin'

you could try to just clean it out as some crap under the ball might be keeping it open.

or reseat with a new spare check ball

or use a pushrod and lapping compound to smooth a new seat

Did all that, same problem. Gonna seek professional help at this point. There's no problems with the engine other than the oil-puking so hopefully it's an easy fix!

Bike is at the local repair shop, mechanic says it's probably the keyway in the oil pump. Either way, she should be up and running in a day or two... Hopefully by Sunday!

Thanks again for all the help and advice...
