OIL Pressure Gauge

When I bought my bike it had an oil pressure gauge that was flooded with oil and a major source of oil leaks. All leaks have now been fixed

I put on a new oil pressure gauge. Started the bike up and the gauge worked OK. After a short ride the gauge was only just registering pressure then stopped working altogether.

Put another new gauge on yesterday and same thing happened.

It looks to me the hotter the bike and oil gets the lower the pressure reading till it doesn't register at all.

When I look into the oil tank I don't see circulation but the oil is getting hot.

As you can tell S&S engines are new to me and appreciate and help.

Recently changed the oil and filter , Rotella 15-40

I run Amisoil 20W-50 with a 60# oil gauge and the oil light. Someone on here said that the light comes on if the pressure drops below 5 psi. When my motor gets really hot it reads 0 psi at idle but the light does not come on. I do not think with the vibration and reading at the very low end of the scale the gauges are that accurate. If no light I am good to go.

Have a 2006 chopper run syn 20-50 I also have a oil pressure gauge when cold it sits at 30 to 40 lbs when hot idle 15lbs but when up to 3000 rpm it goes up to 35lbs.

When these engines are hot, normal oil pressure at idle is only around 6-10 pounds most gauges won't even show that. 20/50 syn is real popular on here some use straight wt. like me at 50wt in the heat of the summer. If your oil light comes on then i would be worried.

Plus all the above is true from the guys

I ran amsoil 20w-50 and just went to mobil 1 V-twin 20w-50 (more available at stores). I have the Accel 7121A oil pressure gauge and mine has been doing the same thing since I installed it. When engine runs cold its at 30-40 lbs. After it's been running hot it drops. Give it some throttle and back up between 30-40 lbs. Down to idle and back under 10 lbs. Never bothered me.....seems to be the norm.

FYI, I use Mobile 1 V-Twin Syn 20W-50 and my pressure gauge does the same thing. When cold, I have 30 to 40 psi. When the oil gets hot, the pressure will read really low or zero at idle. If I raise the rpms back up to 1500 to 2000, the pressure rises back up.

As long as the idiot light stays off, I don't worry about it. I suppose I could find a zero to 40 psi gauge vice using 0 to 60 psi if I ever change this one out but it works so I leave it alone.

I had the same problem, showed pressure when cold but then when oil was hot nothing at idle or lower rpms. My Guage is teed off of the pressure switch fitting on engine. My problem was air in the fittings due to the oil hits a dead end. I removed the spark plugs, oil guage, raised up the dog and put it in 6th gear then rolled the tire over turning engine over until all the air got out of fittings and then screwed the guage back in. It's been working great for thousands of miles now. 0 to 60 psi guage

I have the same tee fitting setup. Never thought about the air. I will give it a try over the weekend.

A 0 to 60 PSI gauge will have better resolution than a 0 to 100 PSI gauge, especially at lower pressures. My 0 to 100 liquid filled gauge bumps off its lower peg when at idle and hot. Plan on buying a 0 to 60 PSI soon.

Having the gauge mounted at the tappet screen plug works but needs to be removed every oil change to clean the tappet screen.....not a big deal for me. I don't care for the rocker cover mount gauge because I don't want to clutter up that area of the engine.

There is a tee adapter that allows you to mount the gauge along with the low oil pressure switch, a nice alternative.

Hey BDBro1 got a pic of your installed gauge...oil pressure that is :D
