have you tried EZ-Off oven cleaner on cold pipes yet? let it sit for ten minutes then some elbow work should get it our. Works wonders on boot marks....

Start the bike up, get the pipes good and warm. Then take a rag or towel with lacquer thinner (or carb cleaner) and it will wipe right off, without scratching or having to polish.

I'd use 3M "Adhesive Removal/Cleaner" in a spray can. You can get it at Autozone or NAPA stores. Spray it on and let it soak the spots a couple minutes. I don't know about the rest of these guys, but I'd sure stay away from using "brillo pads" or paste cleaners on show chrome unless you like spider-webs reflecting back at you from different angles. A bike builder who used LOTS of chrome told me a long time ago "the less you touch chrome, the better"...so I use Harley soft-cloths and "Sparkle" or "Glass Plus" with no ammonia to clean mine...and once in a great while Mother's Chrome Polish.

Ther was talk here at one time of using aluminium foil. I just don't remember who said it and it worked for the person that had boot burns/scuffs to his pipe.

I've used oven cleaner to get off burnt clothes, rubber etc... off of pipes.

Don't let the oven cleaner overspray hit anything but the intended spot you want to remove. Keep it from getting on your paint.

You have to use the correct steps with the EZ Off!!!!!
Make sure to make plenty of time available (1 – 2 hrs, maybe longer)

Items needed (send the old lady to the store):
One can of EZ OFF
One cane of Coke (Keep a few extra just in case)
Eight Shots Of Jim Beam (keep the bottle handy)
2 – 4 hand towels (old rags)
One recliner (couch is optional)
One Mixing glass with ice
One maybe two Cigars of your choice

Step one, place rags so that over spray doesn’t get on any painted surface.
Step two, pours half the Coke in the mixing glass
Step three, pour four shots of Beam into glass and stir with bird finger
Step four, if you have EZ Off continue to step five, if not send the wife to the store drink and repeat steps two, three and the second part of four while chilling on the couch or chair watching the porn of you choice smoking cigars. If needed rinse and repeat until she returns.
Step five spray EZ Off on the affected area and let stand for twenty minutes or how ever long it takes to repeat steps, two, three and the second part of four. Rice and repeat if necessary. Reapply EZ Off if needed.
Step six, this would be a good time to tell your wife just what you think of those new curtains in the living room or maybe how but her parents bug the fuck out of you.
Step seven, if you haven’t been kicked out of the house yet repeat steps two, three, second half of four and step six.
Rinse and repeat as needed.

Good luck!!! :2thumbs:

Semichrome polish on a hot exhaust works great but the exhaust has to be hot! Put a dab on a rag and judt touch it on the ugly and it will sizzle and come off without a lot of elbow grease.
