Just made hard run of bout 300 miles, now oil light is coming on, and rockers rattle after idleing for a couple minutes. Light goes off and all is good at 2k. Fresh 20tw50 oil and filter just before the trip. Went back to normal for short period, then back to shit again. Could I have blockage, bad filter, or ???

Oil level up? Starvin for oil for some reason. Good luck, hope it's nothing serious.

One of the old ones.
Agree that it sounds like a blockage.
Definitely check the screen as mentioned by Raywwod and Knuckles. I'd change the filter too..
Sorry I don't know what oil system your bike uses...I mean all I know is the sump system in my K9. If my 117 did that, I'd think:
a) there is a blockage or crimped oil line
b) the oil pump is lacking pressure or the oil isn't being returned
c) is it possible to have a loose fitting between the reservoir and the pump and have the oil pump sucking some air into the line? (which would get worse at higher rpm)
d) something could be blocking an oil line internally (remote possibility). And it's a PITA to undo all the connections to check...messy too.
e) oil pump failing (get a gauge and read the oil pressure--if the pressure is always feeble, seems like it would be the oil pump....if the pressure stays OK and rises like it should at higher rpm then drops off suddenly, seems like that would be an oil supply problem.
I wouldn't give up until I found it...waning oil pressure is a potential disaster....good luck!

According to the Flow Chart I have for trouble shooting "Oil Light On" if you have checked the oil level, tappet screen and all is good you need to check the Oil Pump, tighten all fittings, if it still not working right you need to remove the Cam Cover and inspect the oil pump drive gear and keyway. If that is good then you have to remove the oil pump and inspect the gears and housing for debris. If there is debris present remove and replace oil pump, clean and flush the lines. If no debris present replace the key and pump gears as necessary.

PS I can scan all of the trouble shooting flow charts I have, but don't know how to put them on here as a PDF file. If I save it as a Pic it looks okay, but you cannot enlarge it to make it legible. So Whoever needs these trouble shooting flow charts, PM me you e-mail address and I'll send you a PDF Copy. It could save you a few bucks or make you a :chopper: Guru :oldlaugh: :oldlaugh:

21 mic filter may be too restrictive. I ran something close to that for a short time and had issues. Need lots of oil flow. Go back to a less restrictive filter. I believe mine is at least 30 mic if not 40. You are running good oil and changing it on a regular basis. The difference in the filter won't hurt anything. I would like to say I came up with this, but I will give the credit to the guys over at Strokers. Also make sure you have the right filter. With or without check valve. Not sure which you need.

No kick start, just the idiot light, like I learned from a old auto mechanic buddy of mine, idiot lights are for idiots!! BUT, I started to worry when sitting at a red light and top end started to rattle and idle got smooth when lifters lost pressure

Don't know what pressure is, just got the dummy light, but do think it works because of top end chatter after it idle s for a couple minutes
