oil level

just a quick ? for you all. Took oil dipstick out of bike after I let the bike warm up for a while and there was barley any oil on the dipstick. So I put oil in the tank till I saw it in the bottom of the fill tube, started the bike to let the oil circulate for a minute then checked the level on the dipstick and the level was way up on the dipstick, like 2 inches above the fill line. Shit! So decided to let the oil set for a minute and the oil was just above the fill line. Great!!! Just checked the oil again after a few hours and it is still above the fill line on the dipstick. The ? is I know that I have to check the oil when it is hot, it is cold now and the level is full, does this mean that the level, when it is hot, will be way above the fill line like it was earler? Do I need to drain the tank because of to much oil?

Drain the oil to the proper level.....crankcase has to breath properly..

Your engine is a considered a "dry sump system" no oil pan, if all is correct should be no more than about 8 oz in the crank case.

Did not know you had to measure with the engine hot. Does the oil expand and therefore increasing level? In any event if you ever need to decrease
the level, use a turkey baster.
AS for draining it because the level increase, I cannot give you an
opinion. Ask the Gasman. he would know
