Hey Guys --

Been away for awhile -- need a lil help. 2007 Chopper, have a motor oil leak that seems to be coming from under the oil resv, dripping down onto the top of the left side shock. Dipstick is bone dry, all oil has drained out. Can't get a line of site to see where it's leaking from, even when up on the lift. Stupid Q -- but can I leave that oil resv empty over the winter and deal with it in the spring? Any ideas where it may be leaking from? Thanx!

HeyMoose,
Its likely that the oil reservoir still has oil in it just not enough to touch the dipstick. The best time to check the oil is right after you have run it. Check the bottom of your starter and see if it has oil on it. If so then your oil leak is coming from your primary via the starter jackshaft seal. Mine had the same symptoms.

What he said, good call - Same thing happned to me, except with an open "dry" primary. Thought I busted the tranny oil seal. Opened up the whole damn thing only to find out it was from the starter (remains left over from the wet/original primary). Found a post out here that addressed this - a little too late, bummer.
Good luck...(I would almost bet it is the starter)

Good call. I'd say it's probably the starter too.
