OIL leak

Energy One
Good morning folks. I have a question concerning my oil leak. It is coming from between the front primary and motor. It will leak while just sitting. I wip it up. no riding and a small puddle apperars in a few days. Any thoughts? Is this a common problem for Big Dog? I have a 2006 Ridgeback. Thanks for any input.:flag:

sparker4life,

Can you narrow it down a little. Is it between the inner primary case where it mounts to the engine and the engine. Iis it leaking from the primary case from between teh engine and tranny. Is it leaking actually coming from the inner and outprimay case along the seal. Could it be coming from the back side of the inner primary between the engine and tranny being possible vent.

Have you change the primary fluid recently and if so did you put only 32 oz back in and not more. Does it appear to be regular engine oil or the thicker primary or trans fluid.

If you can nail it down a little more, we may be able to point you in the right direction.

Good luck

Mine was leaking from the front of the primary. Couldn't tell for sure exactly were it was coming from. Re-torqued the bolts on the primary cover (proper sequence) found a couple of them loose. Fixed the problem, no more leak.

Micketwo,

Good to hear that you got yours sorted out. I do not know if you pull you cover when changing out the primary fluid or not, however it is an easy thing and the gasket is cheap. When you change out the primary fluid and pull the outer primary, allows for a better clean up and easier adjustment of the primary chain.

Then all you need to do is put new gasket on (may want to add a little silicon to help seat it better), then reinstall to torque with a good tightening sequence. I also use a dab of med strength (Blue Loctite) thread sealer to help prevent the little bolts from backing out.

Hopefully for Sparker4life, it something easy like that and not a gasket between the inner primary and engine that would required removing such to replace.

It is between the motor and primary . Under and Behind the primary. It is not the primary cover. Could it be the seal around the motor shaft?

I have an 03 that has a small leak from the shaft to the starter. Leaves a smal spot when I park it. If I reach under and behind the primary I can feel a little oil.
