oil leak while running

hi all- need some guidance on what to check. 2001 BD ProSport, 107 motor, baker 6, 3700 miles on it. I have a bit of an oil leak while bike is running. After I park the bike, it leaves a decent 4" spread puddle and then stops. does not keep leaking when sitting. the "puddle" is from the accumulated leaking oil while I'm riding.

The drip is coming off the very bottom of primary case directly in front of the drive sprocket, and in looking up behind there i can see the oil originating from behind the primary and farther up, directly in front of the engine drive sprocket. Does not look to be coming off of engine, and it does look like engine oil vs primary oil, but I guess it could be primary oil (I did not put the fluids in last - just bought it and it was recently serviced).

I know it is not coming from any breathers on the engine because I though that was the cause originally and I routed the breather lines to the right rear of bike for now.

Thanks in advance-

Easy stuff first
Overfilled primary possibly due to a bad motor sprocket seal.
Stator plug leak.
O-ring on case broken, not sealing, or worse, aluminum O-ring boss broken or cracked on case.
Cracked inner primary.
I would clean (degrease) the whole area, and stand/support the bike upright. Run the engine without moving the bike and try to locate the leak.
Driving usually blows oil all over. You can also make some cardboard dams, tape in place, and drive slowly.

John- Thanks for taking the time to reply and pointing out the usual suspects. Bike recently underwent a complete overhaul 500 miles ago so hoping it is minor.

Ok so here's an update. Primary was a bit overfull. Drained and replaced with 28oz of B&M Trick Shift ATF (dino, not syn). Looks like it had regular motor oil in it.

also... here's the real kicker.. the two forward inner primary bolts were gone. I checked the other inner bolts and they were fine- they had the keepers installed on them. Fortunately had a couple of 5/16 18 x 1.25 bolts in the tool box. Installed with blue locktight and torqued to spec. that was more than likely the major cause of the leak... (ya think!)

all in all.. not a single drop now even after a day's hard riding. Also, using the B&M really changed the clutch feel of the rivera primo. Much much nicer.

Where did they go? :toily:
I suppose they were left out during the complete overhaul.

Glad you got it figured out and you're back on the road.
LOL- I hear that these two bolts have a tendency to fall out if not properly installed. going to ream the threads, super clean them and use lockitght blue. have some temp bolts on their now / waiting for some nice show polished bolts to show up.

update- no more leaking / this was the cause for sure :D

I chased and cleaned the inside threads, installed new correct allen head bolts, locktight, torque to spec. Has been all good so far.
