oil in starter

hi guys, I took the starter off my 05 pitbull,dissambled it and found that is was full of oil and sludge biuld up. Is ther any way to prevent this from happening again? I run 1qt. of oil in the primary case.

install a belt drive.

or you could install a new seal where the starter enters the primary.

the oil is not leaking from where the starter is bolted to the primary case,it is actually leading thru the starter shaft itself causing oil build up inside the starter housing.

Look here for some ideas and I'll be posting a pic of a starter that I just bought that has had a slight modification to it to help with the problem.

thanks for the pic, the guy at the starter repair shop is going to notch out the starter like yours. thanks very much
