Oil gathering in bottom end

My Chopper had som headgasket problems. I completely rebuilt the 107 including the oilpump, carb etc. Parked it for the winter.
It's been resting for about 3 months. Fired her up last night, and she spilled at least a quart of engine oil out the overflow hose.

Anyone had any problem like this? Thinking it might be the pump valve not closing properly and filling up engine over time..

Not uncommon when sitting for a long period.
Check the ball and spring in the oil pump. It's under the short tower on the pump. Closest to the engine case. You may need to remove the hose barb above it to remove the plug. Remove the cap, use a magnet to pull out the spring and check ball. Could be dirt or a hardened oil film. You can lap that area. Cigarette ashes sometimes work as lapping compound. If that doesn't fix the problem, you'll have to dig deeper.

I have a similar issue with my 04 Chopper. I plan to replace the ball and spring in the oil pump, but have a question. If I drain the oil tank first, should I expect oil to out come from the hose barb or from the pump itself (and make a mess)? Also will I need to "prime" the oil pump before starting the engine? Thanks!

If you totally drain the oil tank, you should not get an abundance of oil from the pump tower. No reason to replace the ball, unless it's bruised. Sometimes you need to prime the pump (usually depends on oil tank location). Just squirt some oil in the tower before you put the ball and spring back in.
