Couple of different factors to consider, first of which is we are talking an air cooled engine,
Second the car gets drained from the pan (below engine) bike gets drained from tank so there is more oil in the bike sump than is left in the car.
Over the life of the bike the cost is not significant and lowers if you have multiple bikes that use the same one. (Or share on with you buddy)
I look at it like buying the permenant oil filter -- long term investment.
Personally, when changing the oil, I drain it from the oil tank and the engine! There is also a drain plug on the engine at the very bottom! Quite a lot of oil drains from there! The procedure looks like this - I unscrew the filler plug on the engine, unscrew the cover on the oil tank filler, unscrew the oil tank drain plug, - drain the oil from the oil tank, then unscrew the drain plug on the engine itself - drain the oil, leave the pan overnight so that all the glass is out of the engine, in the morning I remove the oil filter and change it. All this time ALL THE DRAIN PLUGS ARE UNSCREWED! And only after replacing the oil filter do I tighten all the plugs (except for the filler cover, the tank oil and the plug with the mesh on the engine.) Fill in the oil and close all the remaining lids. What do you think? although I have not read anywhere about draining oil through an engine plug, I nevertheless do this to drain all old oil as much as possible and replace it with a new one.
