When the time does come to change the oil in a BD...is there a aftermarket oil filter one can use? Nothing cheap ....a well name brand. Just seeing if I could pick one up at a auto parts store or Walmart or some where closer to home than a dealer.

I know alot of us here bought the K&P oil filter on a group buy from one of the site's sponsers. It wasn't cheap by any means, but it is a very high quality re-usable filter that eliminates the need to find a throw away one every time you change the oil. Check the "Value Tech" web site. He can get it in about 4 different stlyes I think. Again...very good guy to deal with and excellant filter.

im a big fan of the K&N oil filters for the BDMs. Comes in black and chrome and has a nut at the top for easier installation

K&P all the way, pricey....but you will never have to buy another one. Easy to disassemble and clean, and I got mine powder coated and diamond cut to match the limited edition cylinders and other diamond cut accessories I installed. :2thumbs:

I would like to get the K&P one day. But for now I still run a K&N. The part number for the K&N filter is K&N 170C ....this is for a 117 motor.

New 5 micron HD oil filter?

I picked up oil change supplies at my local Big Dog parts store today, and they sold me an HD SuperPremium5 (5 micron).
When I read my Big dog maintenance manual, it says to go with an older EVO 20-30 micron filter...
The Harley site says this new filter is good for both Twin Cams and EVOs.
P/N 63798-99A.

Should I use it in my K9-EFI or not?

Ah the micron question.....
The reason most here get the K&P is the Absolute 35 Micron filtering capability. Fiber filters will claim they filter 5 microns when in reality they let particles larger than 50 microns pass. And no paper or synthetic filter can match the massive flow characteristics of the Stainless Steel Filtering Mesh used in the K&P. This has been discussed in depth on several threads here.

I stock the Chrome and Black Anodized with Polished Ribs.
I have available the Billet, Polished and Diamond Cut.

Thanks Everyone. I did find that my local Harley dealer still has several of the old EVO oil filters-077A, so I'm good to go.
