Hi Guys,

I need help. I have a 2005 Chopper, S&S 117". Changed the oil and could never get the level above the middle of the fill neck. After pouring in about 4 qts., I decided something was wrong as manual states 3 qts. I drained the crank and got 28 oz. out. I refilled the tank, rode 25 mils, returned and drained the crank again. Well, you guessed it, I got another 28 oz. out. I got pissed, thainking it was oil pump, tore it off and checked inner seal and it looked ok. Also performed the new check ball and spring and it looked OK as well. Pinion seal and cam seal all look great. Where is all the oil coming from? I have two oil lines in bottom of tank and one in top. I give up. Big Dog manual is of no help. Thanks,
Casey

My first thought was oil pump sheared the key on the gears. But you 've already checked that. Is it blowing oil out the exhaust?

Your draining the oil from the crankcase? 28 oz sounds about right.

Regarding filling the tank however I put in about 4 qts to the bottom of my fill neck. Make sure you are measuring with the bike in the upright position not on its kickstand.

Looks like your overfilling the oil tank and its just draining out the vent tube back to the motor. 05s get filled to the bottom of the neck while on the side stand per the owners manual
