Oil cooler

Energy One
Riding into Daytona This year my Dog seemed real hot, and shoot down. Will a oil cooler help my bike run Cooler. And who makes a good one?

It can't hurt. I was having problems overheating when I first got my bike. I considered getting a cooler, but instead I installed an inline oil temp gauge, and then switched to full synthetic oil. My temps dropped a full 20 degrees, and haven't overheated it since.

Check your oil temp first before you go with the expense of installing an oil cooler. Oil should be in an optimal operating temperature 180 - 200 or so. Make sure you're using the proper viscosity oil and synthetic oil helps too.

In my opinion, oil cooler is a good thing, have temp guages on the Harleys, and it's measurable, they do keep your oil cooler (stabilizes viscosity).

Suggest installing the thermostat on the oil filter mount, Jagg makes 'em (I think). Was first order of bidness for Primary Spousal Unit's CVO Dyna.

But as was said previously, keep that puppy moving. Closest I've ever come to overheating the Dog was during parade last July 4th. I have the BDM cooler that matches stash tube. That day I was wishing that I had two coolers, but reading some of Donny Smith's stuff, that may not be a good idea...

Do you have a link to Donnie Smith's stuff on dual oil coolers?

What did he say about having two?
